If you see a tree with rectangular pieces of bark chipped away, it is most likely the work of Pileated Woodpeckers. They are searching for insects to eat. They supplement their insect diet with fruit, berries, and nuts, and you may see them at suet feeders, too.
Have a wonderful day!

What lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteLoved your woodpecker pictures. Did you get snow? We have perhaps 10 inches (upstate New York) haven't tried to check yet.
ReplyDeleteNo snow, just rain. And thankfully the rain stopped as temperatures dropped so we did not have sleet, but the northwest part of Mississippi did get snow and sleet mix that made driving hazardous.
Delete...a wonderful blue sky, ours have been overcast this week.
ReplyDelete...Heron just aren't as common here.
...neat yellow on yellow.
...he's wearing his winter coat.
...wonderful redhead!
Thanks Lea for stopping by, I hope that you have a great weekend.
Super woodpecker sighting, Lea!
ReplyDeleteWe have those woodpeckers here as well, mostly in the countryside. I remember sitting beside one for a few minutes one day after it bumped into the living room windows at my parents' home, and needed a bit of time to recover. I figured it was a good idea just in case either of the cats turned up on the deck.
ReplyDeleteLovely sky shot! and great nature shots ~ my favorite is the horse!
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to you,
