Sky Watch Friday: Sunset

Sunset, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 7, 2024
We had 3 inches of rain Monday night, but for the rest of the week we had sunshine with only a few clouds. But temperatures are dropping this weekend, and snow is in the forecast for Monday.

Happy Friday!

1. Winter Sky (Sky Watch Friday)
Sunset, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, December 18, 2018
Night comes early at this time of the year, but now that we have reached the Winter Solstice (today December 21st), we will begin to gain a minute or two of daylight each day until we reach the Summer Solstice in June.

3. Amaryllis (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, December 19, 2018
My 'Red Lion' Amaryllis bulb put up two bloom stalks. The first blooms opened on December 4th (four flowers). Now the second stalk is blooming. These two blooms are lighter in color and more delicate looking than the first blooms, but beautiful nonetheless.

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos, and Weekend Reflections
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters

1. Full Moon Rising (Sky Watch Friday)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, June 26 2018
The moon was rising in the east just as the setting sun cast a final glow on the clouds.

It is times like this that I think of getting a more sophisticated camera for better photos, but the weight of the larger cameras stops me from buying one. (I use a Canon PowerShot SX520 HS)

2. Good Food!
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, June 20, 2018
Santa Fe Tilapia at O'Charley's Restaurant: grilled tilapia filet (with pico de gallo) on a bed of rice pilaf with steamed broccoli. A bit spicy, but eating their wonderful home-made rolls will help cool down your mouth!

And for dessert - Apple Pie! (Wednesday's special at O'Charley's is a free piece of pie).

3. Phlox (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 27, 2018
Phlox is a genus of 67 species found mostly in North America. I am not sure which one I have here in my garden. Phlox flowers may be light blue, violet, red, pink, or white. Butterflies enjoy their nectar. They are also a popular food source for groundhogs, rabbits, and deer.

4. A Gardener's Friend (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 19, 2018
Toads will eat many insects and other pests found in your garden. They prefer a moist environment where they can find insects, earthworms, slugs, and snails. To make Toads feel at home in your garden, provide a source of water, do not use insecticides or pesticides, and leave an area of leaf litter with small sticks and other debris to give them a place to hibernate in the Winter. You will be glad you did!

5. After the Rain (Weekend Reflections)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 21, 2018

3. Favorite Photo of the Week (I'd Rather B Birdin')

4. Good Food!
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, March 19, 2018
Chicken and Rice Soup from Los Toros Mexican Restaurant: shredded chicken breast, rice, avocados, tomato, onion, cilantro and other spices with sliced avocado on the side. My friends like fresh squeezed lemon juice on their avocados, but I like mine with a generous sprinkle of black pepper.

5. Grape Hyacinths (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 19, 2018
Grape Hyacinths, Muscari, are natives of southern Europe, Asia, and northern Africa, but have been naturalized around the world. They are small, but make a brilliant blue impact when planted in large groups. Muscari are not true Hyacinths, and should not be confused with plants in the Hyacinthus family. (I think the insect is a Flower Fly, not a Bee).
