Quilt Trail, May 8, 2017

New Albany, Mississippi, USA, May 3, 2017
Quilt Trail Public Art is an effort by the Union County Heritage Museum to preserve old quilt patterns by painting them on wood squares. The largest collection is at Pocket Park in New Albany, but other quilt art pieces can be found around New Albany and in surrounding towns.

I am thankful that I had the best mother-in-law that any one could wish for. She was a great blessing to me. If she were still alive, she could tell me the names of every one of these quilt patterns.

I love all the vibrant colors: the reds, blues, greens, and yellows!

This steel sculpture entitled "Swamp Flower" is by Louisiana artist Mia Kaplan.

Kerria, March 6, 2017

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, February 27, 2017
Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora' is a native of Japan, Korea, and China. Its common name here in the United States is Easter Rose, because it blooms during the Easter season. I was surprised to see a bloom in late February, but we have had a mild Winter. Easter Sunday is in mid-April this year. I hope it is still in bloom then.

Have a beautiful week!

Snowflakes, February 27, 2017

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, February 24, 2017
Snowflakes, Leucojum, are natives of Europe that have been naturalized in many other parts of the world. Snowflake blooms are small; these photos are greatly enlarged.

Snowflakes, Leucojum
To distinguish Snowflakes, Leucojum, from the very similar Snowdrops, Galanthus, remember the six petals on Snowflakes are of equal length, while the blooms of Snowdrops have three short and three longer petals.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Wonder is a brand of bread sold in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

It was one of the first breads to be sold pre-sliced (1930), leading to the phrase "the best thing since sliced bread" to describe a new invention or discovery.

Blue Monday, Macro Monday 2, Monday Mellow Yellows, and Our World Tuesday

Colbert County, Alabama, USA, November 26, 2016
We are beginning to lose our Autumn color as winds blow the leaves from the trees, revealing beautiful blue skies with fluffy white clouds.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, November 25, 2016
My Carolina Jessamine Vine, Gelsemium sempervirens, begins to bloom as cooler Autumn weather arrives. If we have a mild Winter, it will continue to bloom into the Spring.

Guntersville Lake, September 12, 2016

Guntersville Lake, Guntersville, Alabama, USA, September 9, 2016
Temperatures were hot, but there was a nice breeze blowing when we went to a picnic at Lake Guntersville last Friday. Friends, fun, food, fellowship!

As an extra bonus, this Green Heron showed up searching for food at the lake's edge. He kept those yellow eyes on me, but he didn't fly away as some birds do as soon as they see me with my camera. Wonderful, beautiful bird!

Hope you have a great week!

Bluegrass Festival, July 4, 2016

Savannah, Tennessee, USA, July 2, 2016
Last Saturday we went to the Bluegrass Music Festival in Savannah, TN.

This pretty gazebo, decorated with flags and patriotic colors, was a perfect place to set up the sound equipment.

It was a hot day (91F, 33C), but snow cones helped relieve the heat.
