Flowers, July 31, 2017

At the end of each month I like to pause a minute to look at my garden.

Butterfly Milkweed is putting on its second flush of blooms. The first blooms were in May.

Turk's Cap is just beginning to bloom.

Black-eyed Susans are wonderfully bright, cheery flowers!

The Coneflowers have been in bloom for the entire month and are beginning to look a bit ragged, but for long-lasting blooms they can't be beat!

This is a new purchase - Astra Blue Balloon Flower.

A dear friend gave me these Purslane plants a couple of months ago.

And I have lots of birds in my garden. This is an Eastern Phoebe in bright morning sunlight.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Cotton Fields (Sky Watch Friday)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, July 26, 2017
The cotton is blooming!

We have had scorching hot days with a few late afternoon thunderstorms this week.

2. Elvis
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, July 20, 2017
This Guitar sculpture is in front of Lawhon Elementary School where Elvis attended school in the 1940s.

Nearby is a plaque in memory of Mrs. J. C. Grimes, his 5th grade teacher. Mrs. Grimes was a wonderful teacher who loved and encouraged all her students. I was blessed to have her for 5th grade in 1960.

3. Bird! (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 25, 2017
Guess who decided to build her nest in a hanging basket on my front porch?

A Carolina Wren!

4. Shiloh National Military Park
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, July 21, 2017
This National Park commemorates the American Civil War Battle of Shiloh, April 6-7 1862.

It is a very peaceful place to visit now 155 years later. However, a few times during the year, they celebrate special events with a cannon firing demonstration!

If you do the driving tour of the park, watch for deer!

5. A New Purchase (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 26, 2017
Crossandra 'Orange Marmalade'

Crossandra is a tropical plant that can be grown as a houseplant. I plan to bring it indoors at the first hint of cooler weather in September.

Happy Friday!

Barb Wire Fences are very common in rural areas here.

Thankful Thursday
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 20, 2017
I am thankful for fresh-picked strawberries! I bought strawberry plants for my garden this year, and I am picking a few strawberries each day. They are delicious with my breakfast cereal.

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Crows, July 26, 2017

ABC Wednesday and Wild Bird Wednesday
C is for Corvus brachyrhynchos - American Crow

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, July 10, 2017
Crows are said to be very intelligent birds, and seeing this one, I believe it!

"American Crows are common birds of fields, open woodlands, and forests. They thrive around people, and you’ll often find them in agricultural fields, lawns, parking lots, athletic fields, roadsides, towns, and city garbage dumps." Quote from All About Birds website.

Have a wonderful day!

Rockabilly Mural, July 24, 2017

Selmer, Tennessee, USA, July 10, 2017
Rockabilly Highway mural celebrates Rockabilly music, a 1950s blend of Country music and Rhythm and Blues music. It was the forerunner of the Rock and Roll music of the 1960s.

Brian Tull is the artist. His website is Here

I do not know who gets the credit for this piece of art. It appears to be painted on concrete.

.

And let's give a round of applause for the boys in the band!
Bob Brooks made these metal sculptures. Visit his website: Click Here!

This mural is the second Rockabilly mural by Brian Tull. To see the first one as posted on my blog in July 2013 Click Here

Saturday's Critters, Camera Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Saturday's Critters and Camera Critters
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 17, 2017
This is the smallest Praying Mantis I have ever seen. It is on a Coleus leaf on my front porch.

.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 12, 2017
Another small critter - a snail. I found it in my vegetable garden and plucked it, leaf and all, to bring to the house for a photo.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 24, 2017
An unidentified moth on my Turk's Cap bush. If anyone can help with ID, I would appreciate it.

Willy Nilly Friday, July 21, 2017

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, and Floral Friday Fotos

1. 97℉ (Sky Watch Friday)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, July 18, 2017
Our neighbors cut their hay. With temperatures soaring into the high 90sF (36C), it won't take long for it to be dry enough to bale. (They baled it the day after I took this photo).

2. Horses
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 19, 2017
I always slow down to admire these horses whenever I drive along their road.

They sure do live in a beautiful place!

3. What is this?
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, July 6, 2017
I did not know what this was until I read about it in the newspaper: Newspaper Article
It is a station for re-charging electric cars!

4. Catfish

Belzoni, Mississippi, USA: Catfish Capital of the World!
It must be true since it is proclaimed on the side of a U-Haul moving van!

Booneville, Mississippi, USA, July 19, 2017

Belzoni is in Humphreys County on the western side of the state towards the Mississippi River.
The area produces 60% of the farm-raised catfish in the United States. Personally I like catfish, grilled or fried, but I have a cousin who does not like it at all.

5. Begonias (Floral Friday Fotos)
I was captivated by the photo on the package.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 20, 2017
And I was not disappointed!

I hope you are having a beautiful day!
