Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, December 2021

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day and My Corner of the World

The northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b

My potted plants spend the warm months outdoors, but now they are all back in the house snuggled up close together until Spring. The Thanksgiving Cactus is blooming!

I am amazed that even though our nighttime temperatures are below freezing, the 'Iceberg' Rose continues to bloom on the south side of the house.

To add color to the Winter landscape, we have a Redcedar which is actually a Juniper, not a Cedar. It is an evergreen tree with cones that look like berries. Birds eat the 'berries' and find shelter in the dense foliage.

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, June 2021

The 15th of each month is Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day hosted by Carol at May Dreams Gardens

What's blooming in June in my garden in the northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b

Click on the photos to see them at their best.

My flowers like to play tricks on me by blooming in between Bloom Days - Butterfly Weed on June 3rd.

My Spiderworts have been standing up proud with masses of blooms until heavy rains last week knocked them down. But they are still blooming laying down in the grass.

Day Lilies are everywhere!

Last week I bought these lovely Dianthus plants - three pots of them! I am not sure where I am going to plant them.

Another recent purchase - Strawberry plants. I've never seen red blooming ones; my others have white blooms. No ripe berries yet, so I don't know how the taste compares to my other strawberries.

My 'Burpless Beauty' Cucumbers are blooming, and there are a few tiny cucumbers.

Bees love the blooms on the Linden Tree (aka Basswood)

My mind is really slipping - I almost forgot my Gardenia!

For foliage as pretty as a flower - Nandina! And it produces tiny white blooms in the Spring.

Now for a look at things to come

The Mulleins (wildflowers), Verbascum thapsus, are putting up bloom stalks!

Willy Nilly Friday, Janaury 4, 2019

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Rain (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 3, 2019
Being tired of a week of dark rain clouds, I went in search of color and found it - raindrops on the Nandina!

2. Good Food!
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, January 3, 2019
Rainy days call for soup! Yesterday I met friends at my favorite Mexican Restaurant for Chicken Soup. Not too spicy - just right. Delicious!

3. After Christmas Sales
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 2, 2019
Now is the time to buy gift boxes, wrapping paper, and greeting cards for next Christmas. Guess what I paid for this pretty little box - tax included, it was 32 cents!

4. Deer (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, November 20, 2018
We often see deer near our house in the colder months.

5. Starlings (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, January 1, 2019
Although it is wonderful to have Bird Sanctuaries or Wildlife Refuges near you, you don't have to go anywhere special to enjoy birdwatching. Just look around you - birds are everywhere! I saw these Starlings at a busy shopping center.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Willy Nilly Friday, October 5, 2018

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Pickwick Lake (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 1, 2018
We enjoyed beautiful weather when we met friends at the Pickwick Inn Restaurant for lunch on Monday. We saw Canada Geese, American Coots, Mallard Ducks, and one lone Pied-billed Grebe on the lake. When we crossed the dam and drove along the Tennessee River after lunch, there were Gulls, Herons, and Cormorants. A fun day!

2. River Traffic
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 1, 2018
After we drove across the bridge to the other side of the lake, we saw the 'Bobby Thompson' guiding its barges into the lock at Pickwick Dam. Its load is four barges long and three across: twelve barges going down the Tennessee River towards the Ohio River.

The 'Bobby Thompson' at Pickwick Dam on the Tennessee River
It is times like these that I am thankful that my camera has a zoom lens!

3. Elephant Ears (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 25, 2018
Elephant Ears, Colocasia, are tropical plants grown here in the United States for the beauty of their wonderful large-leafed foliage, but they do bloom, too!

.

4. Sulphur Butterfly (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 3, 2018
No matter how many descriptions I read, or how many photos I see, I still cannot tell if this is a Clouded Sulphur Butterfly, Colias philodice, or a Cloudless Sulphur Butterfly, Phoebis sennae. Whichever it is, it is a beauty!

5. In Flight (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 1, 2018
Great Blue Herons!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day June 2018

In the northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7

Purple Coneflower 'Pow Wow Wild Berry'

Butterfly Milkweed Asclepias tuberosa

Hydrangea

White Bleeding Heart Vine, Clerodendrum thomsoniae, is hardy in USDA zones 8 - 11.

I grow it in a flower pot so I can take in indoors in the Winter here in zone 7.

Peace Lily - Also grown in a pot so it can go indoors in cold weather.

Day Lily

My Butterfly Bush, Buddleia, was slow to form buds but it is blooming steadily now.

The dwarf Butterfly Bush 'Soda Pop White' that I bought last year is just beginning to bloom.

My Japanese Magnolia has blooms in its topmost branches. I have heard this small tree referred to as Tulip Magnolia and Saucer Magnolia. I have had it so long, I have forgotten exactly what the plant tag said.

For foliage as pretty as a flower: Strobilanthes, an easy-to-grow annual for part sun / part shade.

Foliage Follow-up and Good Fences

The Day after Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day is Foliage Follow-up Day
Prentis County, Mississippi, USA, March 15, 2018
My Sedum is waking up from its winter sleep. The rain has been good for it, and now that the sun is shining it is leaping for joy!
