Pickwick Lake in the Fog, December 31, 2021

Sky Watch Friday and The Weekend in Black and White
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, December 26, 2021
We have had unseasonably warm weather this week with a lot of fog, and on Wednesday we had two and a half inches (6 cm) of rain. (I just noticed I made this photo with the nesting platform pole out in the lake directly behind the little tree).

The bird on the Osprey nesting platform out in the lake is a Great Blue Heron.

A view of Pickwick Lake in the fog for The Weekend in Black and White.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Happy New Year!

Our December weather has been very nice most days, with only a few thunderstorms. Our nighttime temperatures dip below freezing, but in the daytime rise into the 60s (16C). The small bird on the Osprey nesting platform is...

... a male Belted Kingfisher.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, December 2021

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day and My Corner of the World

The northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b

My potted plants spend the warm months outdoors, but now they are all back in the house snuggled up close together until Spring. The Thanksgiving Cactus is blooming!

I am amazed that even though our nighttime temperatures are below freezing, the 'Iceberg' Rose continues to bloom on the south side of the house.

To add color to the Winter landscape, we have a Redcedar which is actually a Juniper, not a Cedar. It is an evergreen tree with cones that look like berries. Birds eat the 'berries' and find shelter in the dense foliage.

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

Northern Mockingbird, December 8, 2021

Our World Tuesday, My Corner of the World, and Wild Bird Wednesday

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, December 5, 2021
Northern Mockingbirds, Mimus polyglottos, are well-known from the southern edge of Canada across much of the United States and southward into Mexico. They are ground foragers who eat a wide variety of insects and berries. They are loved for the length and variety of their songs. If you think you hear a chorus of birds, it may be just one Mockingbird!

I hope you are having a wonderful week!
