1. Rain (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 29, 2020
We have had 4 inches (10cm) of rain this week. As we get more sunshine this weekend, temperatures are expected to drop to near freezing.

2. Fishing (The Weekend in Black and White)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 29, 2020
Bright sunlight sparkling on the water gave me the idea to change this photo to black and white.

3. Hibiscus (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 25, 2020
My Hibiscus mutabilis 'Confederate Rose' is late blooming this year. Thankfully, it is growing underneath the trees so it has some protection from colder weather. But it will soon be dormant until Spring.

4. Dogs (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 26, 2020
A matching set!

5. Eastern Bluebirds (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 19, 2020
Bluebird houses have greatly improved the Eastern Bluebirds chances of survival. The entrance hole is small so that larger birds cannot get in, and no perch is needed for the Bluebirds. I built this one from a kit.

Have a wonderful day!

Wild Bird Wednesday and My Corner of the World

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 18, 2020
The Mourning Dove, Zenaida macroura, is the most frequently hunted game bird in the United States. We put seed on the ground for them to keep them near during hunting season. No hunting allowed on our land.

Be careful, stay safe, enjoy each day!

A Frost Advisory was posted last Friday, so I picked the rest of my peppers. They are mild; good in salads!

Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

I am thankful to have another birthday - 70 years - too many candles to put on a cake!
Everyone knows how much I like the Blessed Girl shirts; this one was a birthday gift.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 19, 2020
Chipping Sparrows, Spizella passerina, are common across much of North America. Here in the southeastern United States they are year-round residents, but their Summer breeding grounds extend north and west across the US and Canada. You can attract them to your yard by offering seeds in a hanging feeder or scattered on the ground.

Saturday's Critters and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Click on the photo to see it at its best.

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 2, 2020
I saw these Mallard Ducks in a quiet spot at Pickwick Lake. I thought they were asleep, but when I enlarged the photo I could see an open eye. I checked several birding sites and discovered that Ducks can sleep with one eye open to watch for predators!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I was feeding the dog Wednesday afternoon when I almost walked into a spider's web! It was eating some unfortunate insect that didn't see the web until it was too late.

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, October 2020

The northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b

There are still a few blooms on the Turk's Cap, aka Sleeping Hibiscus

'Iceberg' Rose

These Asters were a gift from a friend last year.

The Phlox are almost finished. But they will be blooming again next Summer.

My Butterfly Bush is still blooming.

My Encore Azalea 'Autumn Royalty' is the prettiest I have ever seen it! Eight years ago it was a nice little potted plant. Now it is taller than I am.

Unless we have an early frost, the buds on my 'Confederate Rose' Hibiscus will have time to open.

The peppers are still blooming in the vegetable garden.

They produce small mild peppers, similar in taste to bell peppers. They are sweetest if left on the plants to ripen to a deep orange color, but I usually pick a variety of colors.

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

1. Pickwick Lake (Sky Watch Friday)

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 2, 2020
We had beautiful weather for our trip to Pickwick Lake last Friday (Oct 2). But this Friday, October 9, is completely different. We have rain coming in ahead of Hurricane Delta that is bringing dangerous weather to the Gulf Coast. Thankfully, we are far enough inland that rain is all that is predicted for us.

2. Wildflowers (The Weekend in Black and White)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 30, 2020
I sat down on the ground to make the flowers seem taller!

3. What I am Reading

Sky Watch Friday and Saturday's Critters

Click on the photos to see them at their best.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 30, 2020
Blue skies, plenty of sunshine, a lizard on our car's windshield! You must admit that makes a unique Sky Watch shot!

Green Anole, Anolis carolinensis.
I was very surprised to see this critter on our car! After I made the photos, my husband got out of the car and used his hat to gently brush the Anole off the car. Or maybe it leaped to the ground!
