Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 22, 2016
It has been a week of sunny skies with a few rain showers here and there. I will be away from my computer for a few days. I am going to Camp Bluebird for Cancer Survivors this week-end. Cabins on a lake! Beautiful Spring weather! Fun, food, Christian fellowship!

I hope you have a wonderful week-end!

Wild Birds and Wildflowers, April 27, 2016

Wild Bird Wednesday and Wildflower Wednesday

Wild Bird Wednesday
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, April 14, 2016
I found this Canada Goose family living in a small pond near a busy highway.

When she saw me, she hurried her babies up the bank to where Papa Goose was standing guard. Though Canada Geese are supposed to be migratory birds, many have settled down here to stay all year.

Wildflower Wednesday
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 24, 2016
I am not sure of the name of this wildflower. The bloom stalks are less than knee-high.

All (or most) of the leaves are at the base of the plant.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 26, 2016
It is an invasive plant, but very pretty if you have room for it as I do. Can anyone help me with identifying it?
UPDATE: Lyre-leaf Sage - thanks to several folks who identified it for me.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Pine Siskins, April 23, 2016

Saturday's Critters, Camera Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 14, 2016
I was photographing the blooms on my apple tree when...

I discovered a small flock of Pine Siskins!

We have a lot of Pine Siskins come to our feeders in the Winter, but they should already be on their way north. I hope they don't think I'm going to feed them all Summer!

Have a Beautiful Week-End!

Great Blue Heron, April 20, 2016

Wild Bird Wednesday and Wednesday Waters
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, April 14, 2016
Great Blue Herons, Ardea herodias, are wide-spread across the United States and parts of Canada. The ones in the northern areas migrate south for the Winter. They are most often seen wading in shallow water, searching for food.

They eat fish, frogs, and small aquatic creatures.

Canada Goose, April 16, 2016

Saturday's Critters, Camera Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

We were leaving a restaurant in the Memphis, Tennessee area when I glanced across the hedge to the building next door.
April 3, 2016

I was astonished to see a Canada Goose nesting on a ledge at the edge of the roof! It looks like she made her nest from Pine straw that fell onto the roof from neighboring trees.

Just look around you. Birds are everywhere, waiting to surprise you!

Have a great week-end!

House Finch, April 13, 2016

ABC Wednesday and Wild Bird Wednesday

N is for Nest: a circular structure of twigs, grass, mud, etc. formed by a bird as a place to lay and incubate its eggs and rear its young.

This Finch is gathering material to build its nest.
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, March 15, 2016
The House Finch, Carpodacus mexicanus, can be found in the eastern and western parts of the United States, but is not often seen in the mid-section of the country. House Finches lay four or five pale blue eggs, lightly spotted with black, in a well-made cup of grass in a bush, thicket, or natural cavity, or on a building.
