1. Sunset (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 23, 2020
We have had hot, humid days with evening thunderstorms, but only a light sprinkle of rain this week.

2. Azalea (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 21, 2020

Even though we are in the hottest part of Summer, my Encore Azalea 'Autumn Royalty' is blooming!

3. The Most Interesting Thing I Have Seen this Week
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 21, 2020

I did not touch it, but this fungus growing on a dead tree limb on the ground is about as big as my hand.

4. Turtle (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 8, 2020
Eastern Box Turtle, Terrapene carolina carolina.

5. Northern Mockingbirds (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 24, 2020
This light pole is a favorite perch for the Mockingbirds, Mimus polyglottos, at my neighbor's house.

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, June 2020

The northeast corner of Mississippi, USA, zone 7b

Click on the photos to see them at their best.

American Goldfinch, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA
There is nothing more pleasant than walking out in the garden in the early morning before the day gets hot and being greeted by a chorus of birdsong. It gets the day started off right! Feed the birds!

Now on to the flowers...

Linden Tree, Tilia.

Most of my Day Lilies have finished blooming, but I still have a couple to show.

I am sorry that I don't remember their exact names.

Spiderwort

Gardenia

One of my roses is putting on a second flush of blooms!

Phlox

And in the vegetable garden...
… Cucumbers!

And then there is this: a mushroom doing its impersonation of a flower bud opening!

But my prettiest blooms opened at the end of May, halfway between Bloom Days...
Monarch Butterfly on Butterfly Weed, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 31, 2020
Butterfly Weed, Asclepias tuberosa.

Willy Nilly Friday, October 19, 2018

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Weekend Reflections, Orange You Glad It's Friday,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Moth (Orange You Glad It's Friday)
Cecropia Silk Moth on a very dirty window with a few odd reflections! (Don't know what that reflection is sticking up next to its head). These moths are the largest of the native North American moths. Their wingspans may reach 6 inches (15cm), but this one was only about 2/3 of that size.

2. Mushrooms
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 7, 2018
The rain is bringing up the mushrooms!

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 8, 2018
The same mushrooms the next day.

3. Heron (Weekend Reflections)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 10, 2018
I think the Great Blue Heron, Ardea herodias, is glad we have had enough rain to bring the water level up again. September was so dry that the pond was getting seriously low at the shallow end where he does most of his fishing.

4. Anole (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 11, 2018
A Green Anole, Anolis carolinensis, on the geraniums on my front porch. I will have to be watchful for it may try to hitch a ride into the house when I move my plants inside this weekend.

Though Green Anoles are not true chameleons, they can change from green to brown.

5. Phoebe (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 9, 2018
Eastern Phoebes, Sayornis phoebe, are easily identified by their call (phee-be, phee-be), and by their habit of wagging their tails up and down when perched. They are migratory flycatchers whose range includes most of eastern North America.

Have a wonderful day!

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Orange You Glad It's Friday, Weekend Reflections,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Mushrooms (Orange You Glad It's Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 7, 2018
… in my front yard

2. Cotton
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 4, 2018
When I saw the cotton picker in the field, I began to look for a place to pull off the busy four-lane highway. Just as I was safely stopped, the picker opened up to deposit a finished bale. That's called 'being in the right place at the right time!'

3. Turtle (Weekend Reflections)
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, October 7, 2018
I see this turtle sunning on the rock almost every time I drive by the pond, but as soon as I stop, Splash! into the water it goes! Finally, I managed to get one photo before 'it's gone again!'

4. Katydid (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 6, 2018
… on a pot of geraniums on my front porch

5. Egret (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, October 3, 2018
Great Egret, Ardea alba

Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

Mushrooms, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 19, 2018
As a cancer survivor (Leukemia, 2014), I am truly thankful for each new day. If you can say, "Good morning, Lord" instead of "Good Lord! Morning!" you will have a better day!

Hope you are having a great week!

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. The View From My Mailbox (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 25, 2018
Lots of fluffy clouds this week, but no measurable rain.

2. Good Food!
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, July 21, 2018
Last Saturday was my husband's 73rd birthday. We celebrated at the Red Lobster Restaurant in Tupelo. We started with green salads and cheddar bay biscuits. For his main course, my husband ordered the Crab Linguini Alfredo, and enjoyed every bite!

He won't let me photograph his food, but...

I had the grilled tilapia with corn on the cob and steamed broccoli. Delicious!

3. Butterfly (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 7, 2018
Common Buckeye Butterfly, Junonia coenia, on Butterfly Bush, Buddleia, at my house. The Butterfly Bush is really living up to its name this Summer. Every time I walk outside, I see butterflies on it, and the blooms have a wonderful aroma.

4. Mushrooms
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, July 22, 2018
Photographing mushrooms is a great way to practice your macro photography skills.

Though people may look at you funny if they see you laying down on the ground!

5. Green Heron (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, July 21, 2018
The Green Heron, Butorides virescens, is small but colorful.

I don't know what it saw, but it suddenly raised its crest and dashed off into taller grass.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Humongous Fungus, April 30, 2018

"Did you know...
This single organism (Amillaria gallica) in Crystal Falls (Michigan) weights 110 tons and spans 37 acres. Could it have originated from a single spore more than 1,500 years ago?"

Counce, Tennessee, USA, April 29, 2018

Scavenger Hunt, July 12, 2015

Scavenger Hunt and Scenic Week-Ends

This week's Scavenger Hunt prompts are:
Down the Street, Beneath my Feet, Faceless, Blurry, and Red White and Blue.

Down the Street

My street is a country road, and at a small pond down the road lives a Great Blue Heron.

Beneath my Feet

Beneath my feet is a mushroom village.

Faceless

Faceless self-portrait. I was amazed at how small the doors were in this log cabin built in 1860.  I could barely walk through without bumping my head.

It is near a walking trail at Bay Springs Lake, Tishomingo county, Mississippi, USA

Blurry

In twenty-four hours we had 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) of rain - an amazing amount of rain for our area.  This is the view through the car windshield on July 4.

Red, White, and Blue

"One nation, under God."

Hope you are having a beautiful day!
