Bigfoot

Ripley, Mississippi, USA, February 1, 2024
Bigfoot aka Sasquatch is a mythical creature of North American folklore. Bigfoot - Wikipedia information

Have a wonderful weekend!

I am linking in today with Saturday's Critters

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endures to all generations" Psalm 100:3-5

Our weather this week has been windy and cold, but with plenty of sunshine.

2. The Most Interesting Thing I have Seen This Week
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, January 25, 2018
An electric car getting its batteries recharged. To encourage people to purchase electric cars, this is a free service. If you can forgive the terrible pun - it's a no-charge charging station!

3. Tupelo Loves Elvis! (Signs, Signs)

Romie's Grocery Restaurant on West Jackson Street: "Put a little South in ya mouth"

4. Learn Something New Every Day
When I think of Wisconsin I think of their dairy herds and their wonderful cheese. This is the first time I have heard of competitive water skiing in Wisconsin.

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday,
and on Saturday: - Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Clear and Cold (Sky Watch Friday)
Baldwyn, Mississippi, USA, January 4, 2018
There was a thin skim of ice on this small lake at noon yesterday. Temperature 27F (-3C).

2. The Most Unusual Thing I have Seen This Week
Waterloo, Alabama, USA, December 29, 2017
I saw this fire fighter sculpture in front of a Fire Station.

3. Did You Know?
"In the midst of Canada's forested terrain looms an unlikely expanse of the world's most northerly active sand dunes. What forces of nature created this rare ecosystem which hosts life found nowhere else on earth?"

Booneville, Mississippi, USA, December 7, 2017

4. Good Food
For a quick, easy meal:

Boneless, fully cooked ham steak (from refrigerated meat section of the grocery store)
Small can pineapple (chunks or slices)
Brown sugar (generous sprinkle)

Place fully cooked ham in a baking dish. Sprinkle generously with brown sugar. Pour juice from the canned pineapple around the edges of the ham. Arrange pineapple on top. Bake at 350℉ for 15 or 20 minutes.

Serve with your favorite vegetables. We like peas and corn.
4 servings. Left-over ham makes a good sandwich the next day!

5. Favorite Photo of the Week (Saturday's Critters and I'd Rather B Birdin')
Lauderdale County, Alabama, USA, December 29, 2017
This Great Blue Heron photo will always remind me of the wonderful time we had driving along beside the Tennessee River last week. The day was sunny, but cold. The water was sparkling in the sun, and we saw a multitude of birds.

Have a wonderful week-end!

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Tennessee River (Sky Watch Friday)
Colbert County, Alabama, USA, October 31, 2017
On Tuesday we drove north on the Natchez Trace Parkway to see if the trees were showing their Autumn colors. We stopped here at Colbert's Ferry Park to admire the view of the Parkway bridge across the Tennessee River.

We saw some Autumn color along the way, but it is not at its best yet.

2. Elvis Presley's Birthplace and Museum
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, October 26, 2017
If you visit Tupelo, be sure to walk up to the top of the hill overlooking the Birthplace and Museum to see this sculpture of Elvis as a boy.

A wall behind the sculpture explains the start of his musical career. Below are close-up photos that I hope are large enough to be read.

.

.

And the Larger Than Life Elvis sculpture is there, too.

3. Food
Colbert County, Alabama, USA, October 31, 2017
Persimmons are Autumn fruits that are bitter if picked too early. They are best picked and eaten after the first frost.

I found these persimmons high up in the tree, so I left them there. Probably best that I could not reach them; they don't look ripe enough yet.

4. Best Photo of the Week (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Colbert County, Alabama, USA, October 31, 2017
Great Blue Heron. Other than cropping and adding my name, this is straight out of the camera.
Canon PowerShot SX520 HS, 1/160 sec., f 5.6, ISO 125, 10/31/2017 1:30pm.

5. Carolina Jessamine (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, November 2, 2017
My Carolina Jessamine Vine, Gelsemium sempervirens, is full of buds!

And a few have opened. Carolina Jessamine is hardy is USDA zones 7 - 9. Unless we have unusually cold temperatures this Winter, it will continue blooming for several months.

Have a wonderful week-end!

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos, and Good Fences

1. Reflections (Sky Watch Friday)
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 23, 2017
Last Saturday was a gloriously beautiful day to walk along the Tennessee River.

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 23, 2017
I almost missed this opportunity to photograph a Great Blue Heron with its reflection.

2. Tupelo loves Elvis!

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, September 27, 2017
On the corner of South Green Street and Crossover Road

 "In 1948, in Tupelo, Mississippi,
a mama bought her son a guitar.
He changed the world.
Imagine what you can do here."

Just me and Elvis!

3. Mushrooms
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 24, 2017
This fungus has a long scientific name, but its common name is Yellow Houseplant Mushroom. They are poisonous, but unless you have small children or pets that might eat them, there is no reason to destroy them. They will not harm your plants.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 25, 2017
The same mushrooms the next morning...

...and then in the afternoon. If you see an interesting mushroom, photograph it immediately! They don't last long.

4. Pets (Good Fences Around The World)
McNairy County, Tennessee, USA, September 11, 2017
I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw what was behind this fence - Pot Bellied Pigs!

Pot Bellied pigs originated in Viet Nam where they are raised for meat, but they have been imported into the United States (and other countries) and sold as pets

5. Blue Salvia (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 27, 2017
Salvia is in the Mint family of plants. It adds a brilliant splash of blue to the garden, and attracts bees and butterflies.

Have a wonderful day!

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, and Floral Friday Photos

1. The Tupelo Farmers Market
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, August 22, 2017
What to do with an old truck? Plant flowers in it! This planting and mural is at the Tupelo Farmers Market.

The Farmers Market is the place to visit if you want local grown food. In addition to basic garden produce, you can buy cut flower bouquets, home-made bread, jam, jelly, and honey.
I bought purple-hull peas there on Tuesday.

2. Elvis
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, August 19, 2017
I found three more 'Tribute to Elvis' sculptures.

3. Soybean Field (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, August 17, 2017
I think the proper term for this is a Center Pivot Irrigation System, but I just call it 'The Monster!'
Our weather continues to be very hot (95F, 35C) with occasional afternoon thunderstorms.
For more information on this type of crop irrigation: Wikipedia article.

4. Fish?
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 24, 2017
I was eating breakfast yesterday when I glanced up and saw a fish on my wall! I think it must be a reflection from one of my wind chimes hanging on the porch (but none of them are fish).

5. Rose of Sharon (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 23, 2017
Here in the United States, Rose of Sharon usually refers to Hibiscus syriacus (not a rose, but a large shrub). In other parts of the world, Rose of Sharon may refer to an entirely different plant.

Remember to say a prayer for those along the Texas coast in the path of Hurricane Harvey

4. Butterflies and Moths (Camera Critters and Saturday's Critters)
Wednesday must have been 'Butterfly and Moth Day' at my house!
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2017
Limenitis arthemis astyanax, Red-spotted Purple Admiral Butterfly is named for the red spots on the undersides of its wings. I don't know why, but it spent several minutes exploring our dog's bed on the front porch.

In this photo you can see the red spots on the undersides of the wings.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2017
Regal Moth, Citheronia regalis

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2017
I found this Small-eyed Sphinx Moth, Paonias myops, on the cord that supports one of my Hummingbird feeders.
