ABC Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday November 21 2012

S is for Strolling through the woods.

All these photos were taken on the Natchez Trace Parkway
Hiking Trail near Tupelo, Mississippi, USA

Sycamore trees can be identified by their peeling bark.

This wooden walkway crosses a marshy area.
Though a lot of leaves have fallen, many leaves on the lower limbs are still green.

Walking along you find unexpected splashes of vibrant color.

Originally this pond was a short distance farther south of here.
When the new highway came through, it was moved to this location.

If the sun is shining, take a walk outside.
You'll be glad you did!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sky Watch Friday November 16 2012

Yesterday we visited Veterans Memorial Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

It was a beautiful day with deep blue skies.

The sun was so bright that there were a lot of reflections on the memorial stones.

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day November 2012

What's blooming in Mississippi, USA, zone 7

Pansies are the stars of the November garden.

Monday night we had our first frost. The pansies just shrugged and kept on blooming!

Though not as showy as the Pansy, Oxalis brightens a shady corner.

Most of the Lantana blooms are gone. These few are in a more sheltered spot.

Best of all, my Thanksgiving Cactus is beginning to bloom in the kitchen!

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

Thanks to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for hosting Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day.

ABC Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday November 14 2012

R is for Reaping the Harvest
In Mississippi soy beans are usually planted in May and harvested in September and October.

Here the soy beans are left in the field until the plants die and the bean pods are dry.
If harvested while the beans are still green, they are marketed as Edamame Beans

Last year Mississippi farmers produced 72,980,000 bushels of soy beans.
Visit the Mississippi Department of Agriculture website for more information

Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!
