Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 27, 2023
I love to read, and I am thankful for libraries! I checked these out yesterday.

Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg
Death by Beach Read by Eva Gates
The Little Women Letters by Gabrielle Donnelly
Thistles and Thieves by Molly MacRae
The Pawful Truth by Miranda James

I have read other books by Miranda James and Fannie Flagg, but the other authors are new to me.
What do you like to read?

Have a blessed day!

Red-winged Blackbirds, Agelaius phoeniceus, can be found across most of North America. This is a male; the females are brown with white speckles.

We had cloudy skies for our trip to Pickwick last Sunday afternoon. The elevated roadway is the Tennessee River bridge across Pickwick Dam, a hydroelectric power dam. That is part of the powerhouse in the lower left corner of the photo.

The birds in the tree are Cormorants.

Happy Friday!

Thankful and Blessed

Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 19, 2023
Strong storms came through our area Tuesday night. The electricity was out for twelve hours because the Highway Department had to cut trees that fell across the road before the Electric Power Company could get to the lines.
We lost a half-dozen pine trees and this huge oak tree that stood beside our driveway. I don't know how old the tree is, but it was already a large tree when we built our house 40 years ago.

We feel very thankful and blessed that it fell away from the house instead of on top of it!

Have a blessed day!

The Carolina Wren, Thryothorus ludovicianus, is a common bird of the eastern United States that has a surprisingly loud song for a small bird!

I hope you are having a good week!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day and Saturday's Critters

The 15th of each month is Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day at May Dreams Gardens - see link below.

Northeast Mississippi, USA zone 7b

Asiatic Dayflower, Commelina communis, common name: Mouse Ears!

Wild Petunia, Ruellia humilis

The American Beautyberry, Callicarpa americana, is a shrub that has clusters of tiny blooms in the Summer. Each bloom will produce a beautiful purple berry in the Autumn. Food for birds!

Speaking of birds, if you want Hummingbirds to visit your garden, hang up a few Hummingbird feeders.

For Saturday's Critters: I think this is a juvenile Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

My Wax Begonias are blooming very well this Summer.

I take them indoors in the Winter, then hang them on my porch when the weather warms up again.

.

Sedum, Stonecrop

Marigolds

Hibiscus

Althea, Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus syriacus, is a small invasive tree (or a large shrub).

I saved my prettiest bloom for last: Tiger Lily!

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!
