I always take my camera with me. Birds are everywhere! I made these photos of an American Crow, Corvus brachyrhynchos, from my car in a grocery store parking lot.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Signs2, Thankful Thursday, and My Corner of the World

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, November 16, 2021
I found some colorful signs at the grocery store on Tuesday!

.

Though there may be shortages of some items, I am thankful we still have plenty of choices! And perhaps substituting one item for another may lead us to discover a new favorite.

I hope you are having a good week!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, November 2021

The northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b

The 15th of each month is Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

Click on the photos to see them at their best.

The 'Autumn Royalty' Azalea continues to bloom profusely.

The Lantanas at the south end of the house are enjoying the warmth of the sunshine and ignoring the cool nights. Our daytime temperatures have been about 65F and the nights around 35F (18C and 2C).

I have been thinking that each bud that opens on the 'Iceberg' Rose is the last one, but here is one more!

The Oxalis is blooming under the shelter of the porch.

And the trees are showing off their Autumn color! This Linden Tree (aka Basswood) is beside my driveway.

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

Carolina Chickadees, Poecile carolinensis, were named by John James Audubon when he first saw them in South Carolina. They are very similar to the Black-capped Chickadees, Poecile atricapillus, and unless you live where the two ranges overlap, you can use the maps to help with identification. Their main food sources are insects and spiders, but they will come to bird feeders. They seem to especially like sunflower seeds.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Lake at Veterans Memorial Park, Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, November 7, 2021
We have had beautiful sunny days this week except for a little rain on Thursday morning.

Evergreen trees provide a nice contrast to the trees that change color in the Autumn.

I like this black and white view from the far end of the lake. It looks like a small lake when you start to walk around it, but it seems to grow bigger the farther you get from where you parked the car!

I hope the weather is good where you are!

Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, November 7, 2021
This airplane, an F-105 Thunderchief, is mounted on a pedestal at Veterans Memorial Park in Tupelo. Remember on this Veterans Day and every day to be thankful for those who serve in our military forces.

Have a blessed day!

Monday Mural, November 8, 2021

Iuka Mississippi, USA, November 6, 2021
Since Thursday, November 11, is Veterans Day here in the United States, I decided to show you this mural that honors the soldiers of the American Civil War and the history of Iuka (pronounced Eye-you-kah) in northeast Mississippi. I like the way the late afternoon sun enhanced the colors.

General Grant and General Rosecrans were leaders of the Union Army. General Price and General Little were leaders of the Confederate Army. The mural was painted for the 150th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Iuka. The other panels depict historic places in the area.

Have a wonderful week!

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 31, 2021
When the American Coots, Fulica americana, return to Pickwick Lake, we know that colder weather is following close behind them. But last Sunday was a perfect Autumn day with the lake reflecting the intense blue of the sky.

Of course when they see me with my camera, they instantly turn and swim farther out in the lake!

Here is a map of where American Coots may be found: American Coot Range Map

We walked along the shore of Pickwick Lake on the Tennessee River last Sunday, a sunny, but cool, day.

That is Tennessee Valley Towing's 'Addi Belle' with her barges going downstream.

And the birds on the lake are American Coots.

I hope the weather is nice where you are!
