We have had very nice weather in January. Some rain, but mostly sunny days like this one earlier in the month. Our nighttime temperatures are near or below freezing, but the days warm up to about 50F (10C).

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 21, 2021
My Hellebores are blooming!

My Morning Glory Bush, Ipomoea fistulosa, bloomed in October and November, but I forgot to post a photo!

4. What I am Reading
I like detective stories and I like animal stories, so how could I resist "The Highly Effective Detective Goes to the Dogs" by Richard Yancey? And of course, I have to read the first book "The Highly Effective Detective" first. I am reading more books than usual this year. Are you reading more?

5. Spider (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 14, 2020
I went back to October to find a critter for today - a spider eating lunch.

Have a wonderful day!

1. Pickwick Lake (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, November 8, 2020
We had beautiful weather for our trip to Pickwick Lake on Sunday. The water was reflecting the deep blue of the sky to make an absolutely gorgeous day!

2. Autumn Color
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, November 8, 2020
Some trees have already lost all their leaves, but others are just coming into their full glory!

3. Camellia (Floral Friday Fotos)

5. Mockingbird (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, November 9, 2020

1. Rain (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 29, 2020
We have had 4 inches (10cm) of rain this week. As we get more sunshine this weekend, temperatures are expected to drop to near freezing.

2. Fishing (The Weekend in Black and White)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 29, 2020
Bright sunlight sparkling on the water gave me the idea to change this photo to black and white.

3. Hibiscus (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 25, 2020
My Hibiscus mutabilis 'Confederate Rose' is late blooming this year. Thankfully, it is growing underneath the trees so it has some protection from colder weather. But it will soon be dormant until Spring.

4. Dogs (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 26, 2020
A matching set!

5. Eastern Bluebirds (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 19, 2020
Bluebird houses have greatly improved the Eastern Bluebirds chances of survival. The entrance hole is small so that larger birds cannot get in, and no perch is needed for the Bluebirds. I built this one from a kit.

Have a wonderful day!

1.This Week's Weather (Sky Watch Friday)

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 20, 2020
We began the week with cool but sunny weather. A very nice day to visit Shiloh National Military Park!
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 25, 2020
The rain began Wednesday, and continued on Thursday. The skies are still overcast this morning (Friday). Saturday's forecast is for a high of 78F (25C) with partly cloudy skies.

2. Kerria (Floral Friday Fotos)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 15, 2020
Kerria japonica 'Plentiflora' is a large, sprawling shrub. Careful pruning (after the flowers fade) is needed to keep it in a pleasing shape.

3. Wildflower Seeds (The Weekend in Black and White)

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 20, 2020
The wildflowers are busy spreading their seeds!

4. Praying Mantis (Saturday's Critters)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 16, 2020
A Praying Mantis on one of my Hummingbird feeders. They eat insects, so I think it was waiting for bees to visit the feeder. I was surprised to learn that there is a larger non-native species of Mantis brought to the United States in the 1800s (to help control insects on crops) that is large enough to catch a Hummingbird! Just to be on the safe side, I noticed the Hummingbirds were visiting my other feeders, but not this one.

5. Eastern Bluebird (I'd Rather B Birdin')

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 20, 2020
a female Eastern Bluebird, Sialia sialis.

Tomorrow, September 26th, is my blog anniversary - 9 years!

1. Cloudy Skies (Sky Watch Friday)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 14, 2020
We had 3 inches (7cm) of rain last Saturday, and partly cloudy skies with a few showers this week. Actually, I stopped here to photograph the Egret, and thought the sky was interesting, too!

Great Egret, Ardea alba.

2. Spider Lily (Floral Friday Fotos)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 18, 2020
Spider Lilies, Lycoris, are members of the Amaryllis family of plants.

In late Summer or early Autumn they produce showy umbels of funnel shaped flowers.

They are perennials that bloom on bare stems; the leaves appear after the blooms fade.

3. The Ten Commandments (Signs 2)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 15, 2020
The Ten Commandments are not multiple choice.

4. Portrait of a Grasshopper (Saturday's Critters)

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 8, 2020
It's not often that I can get a Grasshopper to pose for me!

5. Killdeer (I'd Rather B Birdin')

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, September 13, 2020
The Killdeer, Charadrius vociferus, an American Plover, is most often seen near fresh-water ponds, mudflats, and sandbars.

1. Foggy Morning Sunrise (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

The one day I was up and on the road early enough to get a sunrise photo, it was completely foggy!
(My house is surrounded by trees, so I am not able to get sunrise or sunset photos from home).

2. Spider Web (The Weekend in Black and White)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

But that same fog gave me a good background for this black and white photo!

3. Surprise Lilies (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

Surprise Lilies, Lycoris squamigera, are also called Magic Lilies and Naked Ladies.

4. Spider (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

5. Eastern Bluebird (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentis County, Mississippi, USA, August 3, 2020

I accidently scared this female Eastern Bluebird off her nest, and she watched me carefully as I walked by.

Have a blessed day!
