The last bud on my Moonflower vine opened last Saturday night. It was a very small vine when I bought it in April, and it started blooming in August. I am saving the seeds to plant next year.

Happy Friday!

Pickwick Lake, Tennessee, October 20, 2016
Yesterday's skies were gloomy when we went to the Pickwick Inn Restaurant for my birthday dinner (66! I am over the speed limit now!). The restaurant, overlooking the lake, is about an hour's drive from our home in Mississippi, and is one of our favorite places to eat. The structure that you see in the distance is the highway over the lock and dam.

The trees in the parking lot were doing their best to brighten up the day.

And there were Roses blooming at the entrance of the restaurant!

Oh so lovely!

Pretty in pink!

Hope you have a wonderful week-end!

Jackson, Tennessee USA, October 10, 2016
We have had beautiful blue skies and mild temperatures this week, but what we need here in the mid-south is rain!

This garden sculpture is at The University of Tennessee's Agriculture Research and Education Center in Jackson, Tennessee. I do not know the name of the flowers.

Plenty of fluffy white clouds, but no rain again this week. We are very dry, but no rain means the farmers are able to get in their fields to harvest their soybeans and cotton.

Sky Watch Friday
Lake at Ballard Park, Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, September 15, 2016
We have had a week of fluffy white clouds, but only a few scattered rain showers. When I was at Ballard Park yesterday, the temperature was 97F (36C). A few ducks and geese were enjoying the water, but a lot more of them were on the bank in the shade.

I did not have a lot of Sunflowers this year, but I loved every one of them!

Phlox, September 9, 2016

Prentiss county, Mississippi, USA, September 2, 2016
My Phlox have had a difficult year. Deer ate the tender tops, leaving only a few buds to bloom.

And now they have fallen victim to the nectar-robbers (like this bee) that pierce the stem of the bloom to steal the nectar without pollinating the flowers. Who knew there was so much crime and drama in the plant world!

Hope you a having a great day!

Pickwick Lake, Tennessee, USA, August 1, 2016
We have had partly cloudy skies this week, with a few afternoon thunderstorms to give us a little relief from the hottest days of Summer. Pickwick Lake is about an hour's drive from home. On Monday we met friends at a restaurant there for lunch.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 30, 2016

I bought Hostas for their pretty green foliage, and discovered that they have pretty blooms, too!

Cloudy skies did not stop the fun at the lake on Independence Day. This is the view from the Pickwick Inn Restaurant. They had a buffet of the traditional 4th of July foods: hamburgers, BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, potato salad, slaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, and peach cobbler. Delicious!

Thanksgiving Cactus, December 7, 2013

First Bloom, December 6, 2013, Straight out of the Camera
This is either a Thanksgiving Cactus that is late to bloom, or a Christmas Cactus that is early.
Either way, it is lovely to have it blooming in my kitchen in the Winter.

Hope you are having a beautiful day!

End of the Month View August 31, 2013

Trees and Shrubs:

Big Jay in the Pear Tree
Big Jay has decided that it is his job to protect the pears from the birds and squirrels.
But don't worry - he is too fat and lazy to actually catch anything.

Rose of Sharon
The Rose of Sharon shrubs continue to bloom well despite the Summer's heat.

Swallowtail Butterfly on Butterfly Bush
The Butterfly Bush is the most popular spot in the garden.

Vegetables:

My okra is growing so tall I can barely reach it.
We have two kinds of okra: 'Clemson Spineless' and 'Cow Horn'

Sweet Cayenne Pepper
The Sweet Cayenne peppers are out-producing the Jalapeno peppers.

'Improved Taylor' Beans
I first planted 'Improved Taylor' beans early in May and harvested in July.
This is my second crop, planted in mid-July.

'Super Fantastic' Tomatoes
The tomato vines are looking a bit ragged, but are still making tomatoes.
However, the tomatoes are not as large as they were in July.

Flowers:

Mums
It seems too early for Chrysanthemums to be blooming, but the buds are beginning to open.

'Homestead Purple' Verbena
I've been very pleased with this hardy Verbena I bought in the Spring.
It has really spread out and bloomed all Summer.

Encore Azalea
I'm excited to see that the Encore Azalea is blooming again!

Have a wonderful week-end!

Butterfly Bush July 27, 2013

I went outside to prune off the spent flowers from the Butterfly Bush.
.
And ran back inside to get my camera!
.
We have not seen many butterflies this year.
So it was thrilling to see a half dozen Swallowtails all at once.
.
Easy to see why Buddleia is called Butterfly Bush!
.

Have a wonderful week-end!
