Garden Spider, August 13, 2022

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 11, 2022
The pretty Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Argiope aurantia, may bite if disturbed, but it is not poisonous. Do not kill them! They help in the garden by eating the insects that attack your flowers and vegetables.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I am linking in today with Saturday's Critters

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Willy Nilly Friday, May 10, 2019

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Pickwick Lake (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, May 7, 2019
We had beautiful skies for our drive to the Pickwick Inn Restaurant for lunch with friends on Tuesday. The buffet-style lunch was delicious! This is the view from the restaurant balcony.

After we ate, we drove along the road leading to the lock and dam. Large rocks were being placed in the water against the embankment to help stabilize the shoreline.

More rock-filled barges were waiting their turn to be unloaded.

A view of the lake after crossing Pickwick Lock and Dam. All the construction work is off to the right.

Weather Update:
We had 3 inches (7.6cm) of rain on Thursday with more rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday.

2. What I am reading
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 9, 2019
"God's Smuggler" by Brother Andrew
"Death in Reel Time" by Brynn Bonner
"The Whispered Word" by Ellery Adams
"Death in Dublin" by Bartholomew Gill

"God's Smuggler" is a true story; the others are fiction.

3. Favorite Photo of the Week
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, May 5, 2019
a Common Grackle, I think. (Please let me know if I have the wrong ID).

4. Anole (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 5, 2019
A small Green Anole, Anolis carolinensis, on a tomato cage in my garden.

The prominent white stripe down its back identifies it as a female. (The dark spot on the head is a shadow).

I am hoping she will help me with pest control in the garden this Summer.

5. Killdeer (I'd Rather B Birdin')

Little Free Library, May 28, 2018

Monday Mural, Through My Lens, and Our World Tuesday

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, May 24, 2018
I found this Little Free Library in the Mill Village neighborhood of Tupelo.

Sponsored by the Lee County Master Gardeners. Take a book, leave a book, Happy Reading!

Fruits, vegetables, and flowers decorate the back.

A clever use of an old newspaper box (with the lock removed, of course).

Have a wonderful week!

Signs and Fences, June 30, 2016

Signs, Signs
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, June 27, 2016

I guess if you drive down No Turn Around, you have to drive in reverse to get back out!
Actually, I think the people who live here are tired of other people thinking their driveway is a public road.

Good Fences
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 27, 2016
Deer think a garden is a buffet restaurant grown especially for them. A few people in our area are building deer fences - 8 strands of wire. It seems to be working; they have a beautiful garden!

Hope you are having a great week!
