Willy Nilly Friday, August 21, 2020

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Weekend Reflections,

and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'.

1. Sky Watch Friday

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 18, 2020

We have had partly cloudy skies this week.

But looking at the tree from the other side, we see clear skies and a Northern Mockingbird, Mimus polyglottos.

2. Weekend Reflections

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, August 18, 2020

Great Egret, Ardea alba.

.

3. The Most Interesting Thing I Have Seen This Week

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 14, 2020

I thought Lichens just grew on trees. I was wrong! I found this one on an old truck.

.

4. Saturday's Critters

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 28, 2020

The mother Raccoon and her two babies are eating the sunflower seed we put on the ground for the Doves!

5. I'd Rather B Birdin'

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 16, 2020

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Archilochus colubris, at our feeders. Right now we are seeing more females and juveniles, and fewer males. Only the males have the ruby-red throat feathers.

The feeders contain a mixture of sugar and water that is similar to the flower nectar that is their natural food. They also eat small insects.

Three birds - do you see the tail feathers of the one behind the feeder? With more than 50 wingbeats per second, Hummingbirds can zip around really fast and hover in mid-air!

Have a blessed day!

Critters, August 16, 2020

Saturday's Critters, I'd Rather B Birdin', and All Seasons.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 1, 2020

Imagine my surprise when I looked out my kitchen window and saw a White-tailed Deer eating the fallen pears underneath one of our pear trees! I hope she brings her baby up to the house, too.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 1, 2020

The Northern Mockingbird, Mimus polyglottos, is Mississippi's state bird.

Have a blessed day!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, August 2020

The northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b

The 15th of each month is Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

I have three Crape Myrtles, and they are in full bloom here in the middle of August.

My Encore Azalea 'Autumn Royalty' is blooming a month early this year.

Althea, Rose of Sharon

My Butterfly Bush, Buddleia, has plenty of visitors.

The Sulphur Butterflies prefer the Turk's Cap, Malvaviscus, aka Sleeping Hibiscus

And even the tiny Cypress Vine flowers are attracting pollinators!

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

1. Foggy Morning Sunrise (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

The one day I was up and on the road early enough to get a sunrise photo, it was completely foggy!
(My house is surrounded by trees, so I am not able to get sunrise or sunset photos from home).

2. Spider Web (The Weekend in Black and White)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

But that same fog gave me a good background for this black and white photo!

3. Surprise Lilies (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

Surprise Lilies, Lycoris squamigera, are also called Magic Lilies and Naked Ladies.

4. Spider (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 2, 2020

Black and Yellow Garden Spiders, Argiope aurantia, are harmless to people and eat insects, making them beneficial to the garden.

5. Eastern Bluebird (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentis County, Mississippi, USA, August 3, 2020

I accidently scared this female Eastern Bluebird off her nest, and she watched me carefully as I walked by.

Have a blessed day!

Yellow! August 4, 2020

Our World Tuesday and All Seasons

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 3, 2020
I bought these seeds, so I should know what they are, but I can't remember. I think they are cousins to Black-eyed Susans, a native wildflower. They are very reliable perennials with long-lasting blooms that thrive in the heat of mid-Summer.

Have a blessed day!

I am joining in today with Our World Tuesday and All Seasons
