Donkey

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 16, 2023
I often see this pretty donkey way out in its pasture, but one day it was close the road. Stop! Get a photo!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I am linking in today with Saturday's Critters

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

When I saw these black and white goats, I knew it would be a fun photo for The Weekend in Black and White!

3. Double Day Lily (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 22, 2020
I have a lot of common Day Lilies, but only a few of these double ones.

1. Mostly Sunny Skies (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 6, 2020
We have had very pleasant weather this week: plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures!

2. Social Distancing
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, May 3, 2020

This family has the right idea: Order carry-out food from your favorite restaurant and find a pretty spot on the banks of the Tennessee River for a picnic!

3. The Most Interesting Thing I Have Seen This Week
Tishomingo County, Mississippi, USA, May 3, 2020
A 1958 4-door Oldsmobile 98! With just a little restoration work, it will be the coolest ride in town!
(The replacement of the rear side panel probably means it has been in a wreck).

4. Cows (Saturday's Critters)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, May 5, 2020
I found a herd of cows near the road just waiting for me to come along and take their photo!

5. Need help with ID (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 4, 2020
I think this bird must be a migrant just passing through our area (north Mississippi). It was moving around rather fast near the ground, and was larger than a Wren, but not as big as an American Robin. Hope someone can identify it for me. (Click on the photo to see it at its best).
UPDATE: Thanks to David at Travels With Birds for the ID - a Hermit Thrush!

Have a great day!

Thankfully, we have not had a lot of rain this week even though our skies have been cloudy. And by Thursday afternoon we began to see the blue behind the clouds!

1. Tennessee River (Sky Watch Friday)
Tennessee River at Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, February 9, 2020
When the rain stopped over the weekend, we went to lunch at Hagy's Catfish Hotel Restaurant where we can watch the river traffic as we eat.

The "Chip Lacy" was going north (downstream) on the Tennessee River towards the Ohio River.

Shiloh, Tennessee , USA, February 9, 2020
When we were there on Sunday the Tennessee River was near to overflowing. By midweek the river water was completely covering the restaurant parking lot, but the restaurant itself is on higher ground and still dry.

3. The Most Unusual Thing I Have Seen This Week
Hardin County, Tennessee, USA, February 9, 2020
If you ever wonder what happens to old school buses, here is one that has found a new life as a combo bus and flat bed truck!

4. Horses (Saturday's Critters)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, February 8, 2020
This is the second time in a week that we have seen these horses out on the road. I am beginning to wonder if they have learned how to open the gate! You cannot see them in this photo, but several neighbors were there to help get the horses back into the pasture. We stopped our car and waited until the horses were past us before continuing down the road.

5. Cormorant (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Tennessee River, Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, February 9, 2020
After lunch on Sunday at Hagy's Catfish Hotel Restaurant, we drove a few miles upriver to Pickwick Dam. All the spillways were open in an effort to prevent flooding farther upriver. The water was coming through with such tremendous force that it looked like ocean waves coming ashore.

I did not expect to see any birds fishing in water that turbulent, but there was a Cormorant riding the waves! At least I think it was a cormorant. The constant motion of the water made it difficult to get a clear photo.

Have a wonderful day!
and
Happy Valentine's Day!

5. American Coot (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, January 28, 2020
American Coots, Fulica americana, spend so much time in the water that I don't often get a chance to see their huge feet. This one had an itch that needed scratching!

1. Rain (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 16, 2020
We have had so much rain that this small lake is already running over its banks, and there is more rain in the forecast this weekend. A few weeks ago the highway department put in a culvert to divert the overflow away from the road.

I am not sure what that pipe is, but with all this rain we can pretend it is a submarine's periscope! lol

2. Good Food!
Booneville, Mississippi, USA, January 13, 2020
Vegetarian Quesadilla at El Veracruz Mexican Restaurant.

3. Fresh Coffee (Signs 2)
Pontotoc, Mississippi, USA, January 16, 2020
Have you seen signs for these coffee makers at convenience store/gas stations? The top part of the coffee maker holds coffee beans. A touch screen lets you choose cup size, type of grind, and whether or not you want it to leave space for cream. It only takes an extra minute for it to grind the coffee beans before pouring the coffee into the cup. The idea of fresh ground coffee beans sounds good, but honestly, I could not tell a difference in the taste. I guess the biggest convenience here is that the store employees do not have to keep making fresh pots of coffee all day!

4. Sheep (Saturday's Critters)
Pontotoc County, Mississippi, USA, January 16, 2020
This large pasture was full of sheep, but this was the only one that would pose for a photo.

5. Grebe (I'd Rather B Birdin')

a Pied-billed Grebe, Podilymbus podiceps, in its non-breeding plumage.

I pass by this barn often, but...

… I very rarely see the horse close enough to the road to get a photo.

Your birds for today are...
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, December 18, 2019
… backyard birds: three male Northern Cardinals and one female. I think the two smaller brownish birds are White-throated Sparrows.

Have a blessed day!

1. Tennessee River (Sky Watch Friday)
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, December 31, 2019
New Year's Eve was such a pretty day that we decided to drive along the Tennessee River after lunch. The River is about an hour's drive from our house.

4. Road Hazard (Saturday's Critters)
Colbert County, Alabama, USA, December 28, 2019
When we came over a hill and saw these cows, they were walking in the road. But as we cautiously approached, they moved over to the grass shoulder and stopped to watch us pass. They have better sense than some people; a lot of people just stay in the road and expect the cars to go around them!

5. Great Blue Heron (I'd Rather B Birdin')
