Pickwick Lake in the Fog, December 31, 2021

Sky Watch Friday and The Weekend in Black and White
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, December 26, 2021
We have had unseasonably warm weather this week with a lot of fog, and on Wednesday we had two and a half inches (6 cm) of rain. (I just noticed I made this photo with the nesting platform pole out in the lake directly behind the little tree).

The bird on the Osprey nesting platform out in the lake is a Great Blue Heron.

A view of Pickwick Lake in the fog for The Weekend in Black and White.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Happy New Year!

The Lake at Veterans Memorial Park, Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, November 7, 2021
We have had beautiful sunny days this week except for a little rain on Thursday morning.

Evergreen trees provide a nice contrast to the trees that change color in the Autumn.

I like this black and white view from the far end of the lake. It looks like a small lake when you start to walk around it, but it seems to grow bigger the farther you get from where you parked the car!

I hope the weather is good where you are!

A pretty place for a picnic! We began the week with nice sunny days, but we are ending it with rain.

I think the huge rocks on the river bank are more interesting in black and white.

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, August 20, 2021
The late afternoon sun gave a warm glow to Pickwick Lock and Dam on the Tennessee River when we were there last Friday. We drove across the bridge (the very top of the structure) and along the other side of the river.

After we crossed the river, I turned to face directly into the sun to get this photo for The Weekend in Black and White.

After a few minutes the boat was near where I was standing. It was the 'Roger L Knight' owned by Tennessee Valley Towing. If you look across the river, you can see the rocky shore near the dam where I made the first photo. The red balls in the sky are attached to the electric power lines to make the lines more visible to airplanes.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

4. What I am Reading
I like detective stories and I like animal stories, so how could I resist "The Highly Effective Detective Goes to the Dogs" by Richard Yancey? And of course, I have to read the first book "The Highly Effective Detective" first. I am reading more books than usual this year. Are you reading more?

5. Spider (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 14, 2020
I went back to October to find a critter for today - a spider eating lunch.

3. Hibiscus (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 25, 2020
My Hibiscus mutabilis 'Confederate Rose' is late blooming this year. Thankfully, it is growing underneath the trees so it has some protection from colder weather. But it will soon be dormant until Spring.

5. Eastern Bluebirds (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 19, 2020
Bluebird houses have greatly improved the Eastern Bluebirds chances of survival. The entrance hole is small so that larger birds cannot get in, and no perch is needed for the Bluebirds. I built this one from a kit.

We had beautiful weather for our trip to Pickwick Lake last Friday (Oct 2). But this Friday, October 9, is completely different. We have rain coming in ahead of Hurricane Delta that is bringing dangerous weather to the Gulf Coast. Thankfully, we are far enough inland that rain is all that is predicted for us.
