P is for Podilymbus podiceps, Pied-billed Grebes
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 1, 2018 |
You may see Pied-billed Grebes, Podilymbus podiceps, on lakes and ponds across much of North America. Short, chunky birds, they are expert at swimming and diving, but awkward on land. They eat small fish, crustaceans, and insects. In some parts of their range they add small reptiles and amphibians to their diet.
Have a wonderful day!
