Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, October 2018

The northeastern corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7

Hibiscus 'Confederate Rose'

Night-blooming Cactus, Epiphyllum

I was surprised to see a few blooms on the Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora' - I think of them as Spring flowers only.

Turk's Cap, Malvaviscus, has been a steady bloomer for months! My Hummingbirds enjoyed them this Summer, but now they have all gone south to spend the Winter.

Encore Azalea 'Autumn Royalty' blooms in the Spring and again in the Autumn. Thirty-one varieties of Encore Azaleas have been developed. They are wonderful, beautiful shrubs, and some tolerate cold weather better than others. Check the hardiness zone before you buy one.

Impatiens in a hanging basket on my front porch

My next gardening job is to get all my potted plants back inside before the first frost.

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

  3. You've explained a mystery to me. We were in WV and there was an azalea blooming outside. Must have been like yours. I never knew some bloomed twice. Lovely photos all.

  4. I miss the Kerria (I grew it in my Alabama garden). I'm not sure if I have room for it in the new garden. I keep thinking about it!

  5. So many pretty flowers in your garden. My Kerria pops out of few blooms at this time of year also. I love the Night Blooming Cactus. Keep up the good work----I garden a lot too

  6. Turk's cap really is a winner, isn't it? My two plants bloom all summer and fall and the hummingbirds love it!

  8. Your night blooming cactus is beautiful! We haven't had to bring our plants in yet, though it is cold enough for the next few days, that we did have to bring in tortoises.

  12. All of your beautiful blooms surprised me....As they all look more like Spring than Fall in this part of the country! Beauties in any season for sure!

  13. All beautiful flowers and great photos but the night blooming cactus is absolutely magnificent!

  14. Lovely blooms! Your azalea is gorgeous; I had two Encores that lasted for about a year, and then a harsh winter did them in, even though I tried to protect them. We had our first frost last night, so not much is blooming anymore in my garden.
