According to Wikipedia, Ground Hogs, Marmota monax, are the largest rodents in the Squirrel family. They live in underground burrows, but can easily climb trees and are good swimmers. We brought the dog back to the house and tied her to let the Ground Hog escape. Looking at those claws and teeth, we did not want her getting into a fight with it.
Hope you have a wonderful week-end!

Good doggie, I am sure the ground hog was surprised. I have never seen a groundhog in a tree. Great shot! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!

ReplyDeleteI've always wondered what a groundhog actually looked like
ReplyDeleteWow! Impressive and now I know what a Groundhog looks like!
ReplyDeleteI remember often seeing these guys in the woods around my parents' house, but I had never given any thought to their climbing abilities. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteLooks cute!
ReplyDeleteGreat animal - although it does look a little out of place!

Poor little thing! It's very cute.
ReplyDeleteInteresting photo of the ground hog, I didn't realize they were a type of Marmot. That makes sense. I think my sister in NY has problems with them, I'm glad I don't.
ReplyDeleteHa! I had no idea that ground hogs could climb! Thanks for the info. I don't think we have ground hogs in TX (at least in my area), but still fun tid bits to know.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture. Didn't know thy climbed trees.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one in the trees. Always they seem to have a burrow to run into. I guess your dog caught on before it could get to one!
ReplyDelete~
What a great picture!! I didn't know they could climb :)
ReplyDeletegoodness, I didn't know there were any groundhogs in Mississippi.....
ReplyDeleteI have never seen them climb a tree but yes those claws are scary...great for digging as I have witnessed when they get into our garden!
ReplyDeleteI never knew what a ground hog looked like either - we don't have them in the UK - so I have learnt something new. Cute but, no, I wouldn't want to tangle with those claws and teeth either!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a real groundhog! What a great shot. Thanks for your comment on my blog today. I can't wait to see your osprey photo tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteOh, how funny. I had heard they could climb trees, but have only ever seen them on solid ground.
