S is for Squirrel

Eastern Grey Squirrels are the most common squirrel in our area.

I don't know anyone who hunts squirrels now, but when I was a child (60 years ago) we ate squirrel and dumplings quite often during the Winter hunting season.

Wild Bird Wednesday
The Bald Eagle is not really bald.  Its scientific name means white-headed sea eagle.

The area is fenced off to keep people from getting close enough to disturb the eagles.

The nest is high in a Pine tree, but with a zoom lens I was able to get a photo.  This young eagle was stretching its wings, practicing for flight.  It will be 3 or 4 years before it gets the white head feathers of an adult eagle.
