Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Signs, Signs, Floral Friday Fotos,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters

Click in the photos to see them at their best.

1. Soybean Fields (Sky Watch Friday)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, September 21, 2019
Our temperatures are not as hot as they were earlier in the month, but we are still very dry. The soybean plants are turning yellow fast. The dried beans will be harvested when the foliage is completely brown.

2. Bicycles (Signs, Signs)
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, September 21, 2019
A new business in Tupelo - bicycles for rent!

A sign explains the steps to rent a bicycle using an app on a smart phone, and it has a map of the nearby streets with restaurants, banks, and other businesses highlighted.

For people working downtown, it makes it easy to go to lunch and get some exercise, too!

3. Canna Lily (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 10, 2019
Canna is a genus of 10 species of flowering plants. Though referred to as Canna Lilies, they are not true lilies. Their closest relatives are the Gingers and Bananas. The Canna flowers are usually red, orange or yellow and attract bees, hummingbirds, sunbirds, and bats for pollination. They may be found in tropical and temperate (with some winter protection) climates around the world.

4. To learn something new every day, read the sides of the U-Haul trucks!

"Strange flora, previously unknown to science, were discovered in the hidden Ketona Dolomite Glades, an area often referred to as a 'botanical lost world'. Why do these mysterious rare plants grow only over this unique Cambrian rock?"

The Ketona Dolomite Glades of Bibb County are in the central part of Alabama. I have never been there, but it sounds like an interesting place to visit.

Booneville, Mississippi, USA, September 25, 2019

5. Just Trying to Keep Cool (Saturdays Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 25, 2019
Everyone is looking for a cool place to escape the heat!

In case you are wondering, the front part of the chest of a beef cow is the brisket. Since this is a female, I hope she will be kept to breed, not end up in the slaughterhouse. (I almost never eat beef anymore).

Have a wonderful day!

  5. I have a confession; brisket is my favorite part of te cow. The Ketona Dolomite glades in Alabama has piqued my interest. It's a sad story indeed, threatened with quarrying and clearing of land for pine plantations, and it makes you wonder if U Haul publicizing it is a good thing or not. I've only been to Alabama once, and it was for a few hours (in August, so was hot!)

  6. I passed fields that we didn't recognize the vegetation. No photos though, but I think some of them were soybeans. Stands to reason.
