Robin, January 13, 2016

ABC Wednesday and Wild Bird Wednesday
A is for the American Robin
American Robin, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, December 13, 2015
(getting a drink from my birdbath)

The American Robin, Turdus migratorius, can be found all across North America, migrating to the southern half of the USA in the Winter and going north into Canada for the Summer. They sing a series of notes, rising and falling in pitch: cheer-up, cheerily, cheer-up, cheerily. They are only distantly related to the European Robin.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  3. I remember when I lived in the north the excitement of seeing the first Robin of spring. Sometimes they arrived just a bit early and had to find a way to keep warm!

  4. I miss Robins! They're common in Oregon, but I never see them here in Florida. Beautiful portrait.

  8. One of my favorite birds! I posted some photos of some on my blog this week. (It turns out they don't always migrate South for the Winter, which I didn't know until recently.)
