I have several Tiger Lily plants, Lilium lancifolium, that grow so tall that they need support to stay upright, and even then, they lean over as soon as they get a chance!
The Double Day Lilies have much shorter stems and are better behaved!
A friend gave me this Stonecrop plant (Sedum) last year.
Gardenia: a sweet smelling shrub
Crepe Myrtles are tall shrubs (or small trees) and come in several colors. Shades of pink are the most popular colors in our area, but I am seeing more of the white ones today than in previous years.
Althea (Rose of Sharon): another shrub that grows to be the size of a small tree.
Encore Azalea "Autumn Royalty"
Phlox are very easy to grow, have a pleasant aroma, and give the garden a bold splash of color,
Butterfly Bush, Buddleia, blooms and provides nectar for butterflies from Summer into the Autumn months. Perhaps it was the heavy rain we had recently that damaged this one's wings.
The Beautyberry shrub, Callicarpa americana, has tiny pink blooms in the Summer that produce the bright purple berries in the Autumn that give it its name.

ReplyDeleteThese are so beautiful, especially the Gardenia. I always find this flower so sophisticated. :)
ReplyDeleteAll are gorgeous and the gardenia takes the prize!
ReplyDeleteLovely blooms, and butterfly!
ReplyDeleteYou have to love those tiger lilies! All your blooms are lovely. Happy Bloom Day!
ReplyDeleteAll so beautiful, Lea!
ReplyDeleteTiger lilies are the only real lilies I like. I love daylilies though. We had tiger lilies when I was growing up, and when they redid our road, filling in ditches and widening it, the tiger lilies growing in them were buried. I wasn't here to save any.
ReplyDeleteYour garden's looking lovely, Lea! I love the bright orange tiger lilies and your double daylily. Your photo of the crape myrtle reminds me how much I'd like to find space for one.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, seeing your gardenia and your crepe myrtle. I know I keep saying this, but I live for the day there are crepe myrtles that can grow in my zone 5b New York garden because I love those flowers so. Rose of Sharon are a favorite summer shrub for us and yours are pretty, along with the tiger lilies.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking good.
ReplyDeleteWow, a gorgeous variety of flowers. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteTake care, have a happy weekend!
Beautiful blooms!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful lilies...and all the other blooms, too! I was away last week on vacation, so I'm just getting back to my regular blog visits. Looks like you're having a lovely summer. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful flowers you have this summer. The blooms must be a joy for you to be around when outdoors or looking through a window.
