Black Vultures, July 16, 2021

Sky Watch Friday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Click on the photos to see them at their best.

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, July 16, 2021
Today (Friday) was a beautiful day to be out for an afternoon drive, but a rainstorm caught up with us before we got back home! We were enjoying this view of Pickwick Lake, when we looked over to the left (not in this photo) and saw a flock of Vultures coming in for a landing.

I think this sign facing the lake is a warning to boats that the shore here is dangerous because of the rocks.

Black Vultures, Coragyps atratus. Since Vultures do not fish, I wonder what drew them to the lake.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. That's rather an ominous sight, since you say they don't normally congregate at the lake! Whenever I see them I wonder what died, and where it is. That's a lot of them there, all looking the same direction! I read and watch too many mysteries, I imagine a body in the lake!

  2. A few Black Vultures show up in southern Ontario most years, but I have yet to see one here.

  3. Maybe they are waiting for dead fish.

  4. I've never seen a group of vultures like this before. I see groups of them circling in the sky sometimes, but they never seem to land!

  8. Hello Lea,
Pretty sky shot! I have seen vultures nesting in the trees around lakes and rivers. It is cool to see them lined up on the sign. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy day and a great new week ahead. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
