R is for the Red-winged Blackbird
|
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, April 7, 2019 |
Red-winged Blackbirds,
Agelaius phoeniceus, can be found across most of North America. The coal-black males have distinctive red and yellow shoulder patches; the females are a more subdued brown overall (no shoulder patches), but quite beautiful nonetheless. Red-winged Blackbirds feed on insects in the Summer, and eat seeds and grain in the Winter.
Have a great day!
