Muscovy Ducks, January 31, 2018

ABC Wednesday, Wild Bird Wednesday, and Wednesday Around The World
D is for Ducks - waterfowl belonging to the Anatidae family of birds.

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, December 25, 2017
Muscovy Ducks, Cairina moschata, must be the ugliest Ducks in the world! I do not know what the fuss was all about, but this group at Ballard Park were raising their wings and advancing on another group of Ducks.

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, December 25, 2017
And this one at Veterans Park came to us as soon as we stopped the car, hoping we would give it leftovers from our lunch! The Ducks in the parks are used to people feeding them and have become almost tame.

Have a wonderful day!

  11. I rarely saw muscovies until a couple of years ago. One took up residence at our neighborhood lake and after a year, another one showed up. Last summer they raised a family and at least four are still here. I've gotten used to them and I like them, even their odd faces.

  13. Very interesting looking ducks. Maybe this is where they get the saying ugly ducklings. But beauty is all in the eye of the beholder -right! I agree with Gattina they almost look like a turkey and a duck crossed with each other.

  15. Lea, thank you! Those hawks just didn't feel like Red-Tails to me, and I think that's because I'm more used to the eastern ones. I knew they almost HAD to be Red-Tails but their red tails are just not visible! How good it is to know now that they tend to be darker. Thank you for looking that up!
