Muscovy Ducks,
Cairina moschata, must be the ugliest Ducks in the world! I do not know what the fuss was all about, but this group at Ballard Park were raising their wings and advancing on another group of Ducks.

And this one at Veterans Park came to us as soon as we stopped the car, hoping we would give it leftovers from our lunch! The Ducks in the parks are used to people feeding them and have become almost tame.
Have a wonderful day!

Hello, great photos! They are strange looking ducks. Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI agree...ugly!! I remember when I first set eyes on them I thought they were cancerous. lol
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty ugly, but I like seeing them anyway!
ReplyDeleteA different looking duck:) Have a lovely week, exploring!
ReplyDeleteThey have to be the oddest ducks!
ReplyDeleteI thought they were chickens. lol
ReplyDeleteThey are funny but they do know where there bread is buttered! :-)
ReplyDeleteOdd looking ducks, okay ugly ducks. :) Interesting to see, though. You got some good shots.
ReplyDeleteI rarely saw muscovies until a couple of years ago. One took up residence at our neighborhood lake and after a year, another one showed up. Last summer they raised a family and at least four are still here. I've gotten used to them and I like them, even their odd faces.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen these ducks, they have almost a face like a turkey, lol
ReplyDeleteVery interesting looking ducks. Maybe this is where they get the saying ugly ducklings. But beauty is all in the eye of the beholder -right! I agree with Gattina they almost look like a turkey and a duck crossed with each other.
ReplyDeleteLove the Tupelo ~ great shot!

Lea, thank you! Those hawks just didn't feel like Red-Tails to me, and I think that's because I'm more used to the eastern ones. I knew they almost HAD to be Red-Tails but their red tails are just not visible! How good it is to know now that they tend to be darker. Thank you for looking that up!
ReplyDeleteWhat classic CHICKEN color. Strange
ReplyDeleteI remember hardly believing my eyes the first time we saw some of these!
ReplyDeleteFor a fraction of a second I thought they were chickens. They are strange looking but I guess everybody's beautiful in their own way.
