Red-winged Blackbird, July 12, 2017

ABC Wednesday and Wild Bird Wednesday
A is for Agelaius phoeniceus - Red-winged Blackbird

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, July 6, 2017
Red-winged Blackbirds, Agelaius phoeniceus, are seen all across North America, from Canada to Mexico, and down into some of the Central American countries.

The males are easily identified by their bright red and yellow shoulder patches. This one seemed to enjoy posing for me. The streaky brown females are much quieter and less often seen than the males.

Have a wonderful day!

  7. I guess we must have those in Texas, but I don't recall ever seeing one. I put out seeds, but see very few birds. It's mostly squirrels but I enjoy watching them too.
