This stone fence is around the cemetery at Shiloh National Military Park.
Squirrels are everywhere!
Most of the graves in this cemetery are soldiers killed in the Battle of Shiloh April 6-7, 1862.
Thankful Thursday

I am thankful that we hired a tree service company to cut this huge pine tree that was leaning towards our house. We have been concerned about it for several years, and when a storm a couple of weeks ago brought down other trees on our property, we knew it was time to cut it before it fell.
24 inches (61cm) across!
Have a wonderful day!

...I love tree, but not problem trees.
ReplyDeleteHello, cute squirrel image. We had a large pine tree next to our house taken down. It was way too close to the house. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteAnother interesting post, pitty the tree had to come down, but better safe than sorry.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Gordon.
shiloh is beautiful but a sad history...glad you got that tree taken down before it was too late! that was a huge tree! in our old house we had a lot of tall pines around it...there was a huge storm one summer and several snapped but thank goodness didn't hit the house but after that everytime a storm would come i'd get scared that one would fall right on it!
ReplyDeleteRows and rows of headstones are a very poignant sight...
ReplyDeleteGlad the tree is sorted for your safety!
Lots of creative photos and good you had the threatening tree cut down ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteThat was a huge tree! I know you'll be glad to have it down and not worrying about it. And a very beautiful fence around the cemetery. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteIt's scary to have big trees like that leaning toward your house! You can clearly see the growth rings in that last photo.
ReplyDeleteNice pics Lea. Love seeing the cemetery. We have several squirrels, can't say I'm crazy about them especially when they bother my bird feeders. We had a hickory that had to be taken down this year because it was leaning a little too much towards our house and it had hollow spots. Take care.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had that pine tree taken down. My parents have had the same problem. Trees like that can be so dangerous! Thanks for linking up today and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat was a big tree! I had several trees taken down in my yard a couple of years ago and was very thankful I did when that hurricane blew through here last fall.
ReplyDeleteInteresting grave stones
ReplyDeleteInteresting fence around the cemetery. I'm glad you don't have to worry about that tree anymore. Firewood?
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice stone wall. Cute squirrel on the wall. The cemetery has such history. Wow that was a big tree, sad to see it go but I'm sure having it fall on your house would be worse.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Shiloh but the numbers killed there were really tragic.
