Scenic Week-Ends
Pickwick Dam on the Tennessee River, USA, November 26, 2015

After eating Thanksgiving lunch with our cousins, we drove over to Pickwick to see if the Gulls and Herons were there.

Ring-Billed Gulls and Great Blue Herons

When water is being released through the spillways, the Gulls and Herons have a wonderful time fishing.

Most of the gulls we see are Ring-Billed Gulls, but there are other kinds here, too.

The Herons are well camouflaged as they rest after eating.

Great Blue Herons

This one is ready to go back for a second helping, just as we all did at our Thanksgiving feast!

  3. There looks to be rich pickings once the sluice gates open. The gulls and herons had a good Thanksgiving meal I think.

  6. These are great.

This is so neat to see because I just saw my first great blue heron here only this morning. It was hanging out by our neighbor's pond. It was too far away to get a decent pic though.
