Belted Kingfisher, November 11, 2015

ABC Wednesday, Wild Bird Wednesday, and Wednesday Waters

ABC Wednesday
R is for Responsibility - being accountable for something within one's power or control.
David Crockett State Park, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, USA, October 7, 2015

I do not understand why we have such a problem with people throwing their trash on the ground instead of putting it in a trash can.  It is a disgusting habit!  As the sign says, it's everyone's responsibility to keep our land beautiful - Please don't litter!

Wild Bird Wednesday

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, November 5, 2015

We were hoping to see Ospreys near this nesting platform, but were happy to see this female Belted Kingfisher instead. There was heavy cloud cover, so the photos are not as clear as they would be on a brighter day.

Kingfishers can be seen over most of the United States and Canada. They scan the water looking for fish and other small aquatic animals, then dive to grab their prey.

Wednesday Waters
Pickwick Lake, Tennessee, USA, November 5, 2015

A Gaggle of Geese!
Autumn leaves are falling fast. Below freezing temperatures are in the forecast for Friday night.

Have a Wonderful Day!

  1. and how right you are.... not only for the American parts of our planet i would like to add.

I can get realy anoyed when i see litter beside the road...and i rarely hasitate to tap people on their shoulder if i see them doing it...

    Have a nice abc-day/ - week
    ♫ M e l ☺ d y ♫ <abc-w-team)

  2. It really irks me when people throw litter on the ground.
There is a take-away shop at the end of our road and
kids from the local school think nothing of discarding
their food wrappers in our front garden. After trying
to remonstrate with some of the culprits I telephoned
the Principal and he stopped the boys going off campus
    at lunchtime...Result!
    Best wishes,
    ABCW team.

  3. I completely agree with you. My children would never even think of spitting their gum on the ground. It is something that is taught to them early on and at 10 and 12 the hold onto that gum complaining if we don't have anything for them to spit it into. Lovely bird photos. I never see anything like that by me. Great captures. If you decide to come see mine I am going to add the link so it doesn't get lost in the bloggyness of my day.

  4. Hello, great shots of the Kingfisher and I like the geese scene. Happy Wednesday!

  5. I agree with you, Lea. I cannot think of anyone who would say litter is why do they do it?

  6. Littering REALLY Irritates me, especially when there's a trash can three feet away. I'm particularly cranky about cigarette butts.

  7. Wonderful photography! and great post for R ~ so true!

    Happy Week to you,
    artmusedog and carol

  8. Great kingfisher shots! And beautiful waterway. Yes, people who litter have always annoyed me so much.

  9. A kingfisher would brighten up any day no matter how cloudy.

  10. Love the sign, and your beautiful bird/scenic photos.
