White-throated Sparrow, February 20, 2019

Wild Bird Wednesday and My Corner of the World

(Click on photo to see it at its best)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, February 6, 2019
White-throated Sparrows, Zonotrichia albicollis, are migratory sparrows that breed in Canada and the extreme northern parts of the United States. We see them here in the southern US only in the Winter. They are ground-foraging birds so you may see them under bird feeders eating the spilled seeds. They also eat wild fruit, berries, and insects.

This is only the second time I have seen a White-throated Sparrow. The first one was at Big Hill Pond State Park, Tennessee, on January 29, 2015. So you can imagine how excited I was to see this one here at my house!

Have a wonderful day!
