Willy Nilly Friday, August 24, 2018

Willy Nilly Friday 5,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. The Most Unusual Thing I have Seen This Week!
Itawamba County, Mississippi, USA, August 18, 2018
Art in the grass!

Never in a hundred years would I have thought to create art with a lawn mower!

2. An Unexpected Visitor
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 19, 2018
A young Praying Mantis, Mantis religiosa, on one of my Hummingbird feeders! They usually eat insects, but it looks like they may like a sweet drink now and then! Actually, I think that it may be catching the small flying insects that are attracted to the sugar-water in the feeders.

3. Good Food!
Florence, Alabama, USA, August 13, 2018
We like to eat at Ricatoni's Italian Grill in Florence. I usually order one of their salads, but...

… the real reason I love to eat there is that the bread is served with herbs and olive oil for dipping - wonderfully delicious!

4. Critters with Wings (Saturday's Critters)
Colbert County, Alabama, USA, August 13, 2018
Common Buckeye Butterfly

Colbert County, Alabama, USA, August 13, 2018
A first glance this looks like one butterfly, but look closer - two Sulphur butterflies side by side!

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, August 14, 2018
A dragonfly holding on to a dried seed head with one leg and grabbing a post with its other legs

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 31, 2018
Hummingbird Moth on 'Soda Pop White' Buddleia (Butterfly Bush)

5. Killdeer (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, August 16, 2018
Just look around you - birds are everywhere! I saw this pair of Killdeer in a drainage ditch near a busy shopping center.

    1. Interesting point of view. I did not see it as a flag, but as just an interesting geometric design. Thanks for your comment!

  5. Wow lots of neat things to see. A fellow I knew said he used to write his name in the lawn--I never saw it though.

  8. Your photos of the butterflies and moths are so good. And love the Praying Mantis hanging out where he knows his prey will be!! Kildeers are so pretty and so funny how they pretend to be injured to get you away from their nest. I always want to say ' don't you know I would never hurt your babies?'
