Fox Sparrows,
Passerella iliaca, are migratory birds that tend to feed on the ground near dense vegetation. Their favorite foods are insects, but they may be seen on the ground under bird feeders, scratching for fallen seeds.
They were here in Mississippi last Winter, but have gone north now to breed and raise their young. At this time of the year (Summer), look for them in the Rocky Mountains of the western United States and all across Canada and Alaska.
