Rose-breasted Grosbeak, May 9, 2018

ABC Wednesday, Wild Bird Wednesday, and Wednesday Around The World
R is for Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Male Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 23, 2018
The Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Pheucticus ludovicianus, is a medium-sized American songbird with a triangular bill. We see them here in the southeastern United States as they migrate from their winter homes in South and Central America to their breeding grounds in the northern United States and Canada.

Female Rose-breasted Grosbeak

As is usual in the bird world, the males are more colorful than the females. They eat insects, fruit, and seeds. This pair stopped briefly at my house to fill up on suet and sunflower seeds. These photos were made through my dining room window.

I hope you have a beautiful day!

  5. I always love seeing a grosbeak. Not too often at my feeders, but I always enjoy them whenever they stop by!

  6. They're so expressive. I don't recall ever seeing a bird with a football shape like head. :-)
