Wildflowers: Spiderwort, May 23, 2018

The fourth Wednesday of each month is Wildflower Wednesday!

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 14, 2018
Tradescantia virginiana, Spiderwort, is a North American native wildflower hardy in USDA zones 4 - 9. Each plant produces a mass of buds that open a few at a time, extending the bloom time.

The plants grow up to 24 inches tall, and they look best grown in clumps.

I found these Spiderworts growing on the side of the road near my house.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. ...Spiderworts give a wonderful splash of color. You should check out 'Miss Kate' with yellow foliage.

  4. A great plant! It reseeds happily in my garden. Fortunately, because yesterday a clump was laying on the ground, victim to vole feasting.
