Ring-billed Gulls, November 8, 2017

ABC Wednesday and Wild Bird Wednesday
R is for Ring-billed Gulls

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, November 6, 2017
These are juvenile Ring-billed Gulls, Larus delawarensis. When they are mature (at 3-years old), their speckled feathers will be replaced by white, and their back and wings will become a bluish-grey color (with black wing tips). The Gull in front is younger than the other one.

They eat fish, insects, earthworms, grain and fruit, and given the opportunity, will steal food from unwary people who come to the beach for a picnic!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. Wonderful birds to watch, but they are also very brutal at times.

  4. I still like to watch gulls. Where I grew up (inland) we never saw them, and I remember how excited us kids were to feed them when we went on a trip.... they definitely are opportunistic feeders.....

  9. I'm reminded of the peculiar gulls in Finding Nemo, which may be unfair to the real birds.
