Great Blue Herons, November 1, 2017

Wild Bird Wednesday, Wednesday Around The World, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 30, 2017
Great Blue Herons, Ardea Herodias, are the largest North American Heron. They can be seen all across the continent near any body of water large enough for fish, their primary food. Great Blue Herons have good night vision enabling them to hunt day or night.

Lee County, Mississippi, USA, October 17, 2017
In addition to fish they eat reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, and insects.

Have a beautiful day!

  3. Great Indeed. When the heron is stood next to that huge tree it's easy to see how big a bird it is.

  5. Love Great Blue Herons especially how they have this wonderful almost prehistoric sound. Forget sometimes how large they really are. Your photos highlight that wonderfully.
