The Barn Collective, September 3, 2017

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 2, 2017
When the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey came through our area on Wednesday, this old barn fell victim to its fury.

But let's remember it as it was when I photographed it last year.

Your birds for today are...

Cardinals! The male is a brilliant red.

But the female has red only on her wings and tail. Both have crests they raise when alarmed.

Have a blessed day!

  1. Hello!:) Lovely captures of the Cardinals. Shame about the first barn being damaged, but I'm glad you are OK.:)

  4. ...what a loss. Weather can often take their toll on barns. I hope that Harvey passed you by. Thanks for the visit.

  5. Oh so sad for the old barn - but love the view of it before. Such stories it could tell - and now it has another tale. The cardinal is amazing, I've only seen them a few times, once in Wisconsin and again several in West Virginia. We don't have cardinals out here on the west coast - and we wish we did.

  7. Nice shot of the cardinal - especially the female.
Poor barn. Seeing one collapse from age is very different than seeing one after such destruction.

  9. I also wonder about the fate of the beautiful old outbuildings around the lighthouse which I photographed at Aransas Pass only a few days before Harvey hit it dead on.
