Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day September 2017

Northeast Mississippi, USA zone 7

Welcome to my garden!

Canna Lily

Turk's Cap

Spider Lilies

My Butterfly Bush, Buddleia, is very popular with the bees and butterflies.

Silver-spotted Skipper on Buddleia
I waited in vain for this Silver-spotted Skipper to land on a new bloom, but it persisted in visiting the spent blooms. Evidently there is still nectar to be found even after the blooms fade.

Tuberous Begonia

This Caryopteris is sometimes called Blue Spirea (but it is not a Spirea). It is hardy in USA zones 5 to 9. A garden center owner gave me this small, but already rooted sprig last week.

Day Lily

Cypress Vine

Honeysuckle will try to take over a place. We mow around it to keep it from spreading.

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

  3. I see that we have several plants in common, including the cypress vine which I forgot to include in my post. All your blooms are lovely.

  4. Great photos and I especially appreciated the Caryopteris. We saw this in a friend's garden and all exclaimed over that blue but no one knew what it was, including me. But a minute later I blurted out caryopteris and hoped I was right. It's funny how sometimes a bit of information pops out of you mouth, from the depths of your brain before you have time to think about it.

  6. Lovely photos. I planted a butterfly bush this spring. Hope it survives winter and takes off next year. I saw very few butterflies this year.

  7. That Cypress Vine is gorgeous. This is the first I've ever seen it. And to have a garden center owner to just GIVE you a rooted plant is awesome. That wouldn't happen here, for sure.

  8. My cypress vine slips along the ground. I forgot that it was even there. Those tiny little flowers are hummingbird magnets. They love it. Your canna is really pretty too. Heck, I like all your flowers. Happy GBBD.

  9. Lots of blooms in your garden! Love seeing everyone's pictures of spider lilies but I've never had much luck with them in my own garden.

  10. I'm also growing Cypress vine, Hurricane/Red Spider lilies and Turkscap/Wax Mallow... none of us can resist those Reds, can we!

  11. I enjoyed your butterfly bush, mine did not come back this year. I think it is because the oak tree has grown and is shading it too much. It was a pleasure looking at yours. Perhaps I should plant another, or cut down a tree, or just enjoy yours??
    Thanks for sharing for GBBD.
