Common Walking Stick or Devil's Walking Stick,
Diapheromera femorata, on the hood of my car. Stick insects often hold their front legs up alongside their heads as camouflage, to look more like small twigs.

Corinth, Mississippi, USA, September 7, 2017 |
The Praying Mantis,
Mantis religiosa, is a friend to the gardener. They eat harmful insects.

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 11, 2017 |
The Eastern Amberwing Dragonfly,
Perithemis tenera, is a small dragonfly (less than one inch, 25mm) that can be found in the eastern and central parts of North America.
|
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 11, 2017 |
Common Whitetail Skimmer Dragonflies,
Libellula Lydia, are about 3 inches (75mm) long.
The transparency of the wings near the body and at the tips helps with camouflage, but the
white tail is harder to disguise!
Have a wonderful week-end!

...that Common Walking Stick is mighty strange.
ReplyDeleteHello, these are all great captures. I love the fishing buddies. The dragonflies and walking stick are wonderful photos. Great post. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh Lea, your shots of these critters are a feast for the eyes. I struggle with butterflies and dragonflies because they don't stop long enough for me to capture them on camera. So I enjoyed your post today. Have a great weekend. Jo
ReplyDeleteWonderful nature photography ~ love that stick ~ ^_^

Wow lots of goodies to see here. Like the Heron flying about and the Walking Stick---haven't seen one in years

Cool critters! I love watching heron fly, such a huge presence in the sky; not so fond of seeing them fishing in my koi pond but an electric fence has taken care of that problem.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great set of bugs, but I particularly like that heron.
ReplyDeleteI love that stick bug!
ReplyDeleteWow! These are such great photos of a variety of insects! They are amazing!
ReplyDeletecool heron
ReplyDeleteLove the heron (my fav) but that walking stick critter? Crazy, excellent photo. So cool.
ReplyDeleteThat Walking Stick is amazing! Never seen one.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures! It's so much fun to watch the dragonflies in action. So many amazing creatures in the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat a collection of bugs you found. I haven't seen a dragon fly or a walkingstick in ages. Years ago in southeast Oklahoma the family and I were walking through some woods and found ourselves covered head to toe with walkingsticks. Strange experience.
ReplyDeleteThat walking stick is incredible!!
ReplyDeleteAnd looks like the G B Heron had his lunch while you were focusing in on it.
Thanks so much for adding your link to this post with us at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend. Always a joy to view your shares!!
Nice photos, the walking stick is an interesting shot. The heron is always a beautiful bird to photograph. Thanks for sharing your photos Lea.
ReplyDeleteGosh the Walking Sick does look like a twig! Your herons in flight are beautiful as are your dragonflies. Have a lovely day.
