Camera Critters and Saturday's Critters
Spiny Orb Weaver Spider, Lee County, Mississippi, USA, September 15, 2015 |
Hiking a nature trail on the Natchez Trace Parkway, I almost walked into this spider's web. Luckily the spider was at head-height, and I saw it just in time. It is hanging upside down - those spots that look like eyes are just spots on its back.
Although Spiny Orb Weaver Spiders look fierce, they are non-aggressive and non-poisonous.

I always enjoy watching Great Blue Herons.
I was amazed to see this one lean so far forward without losing its balance!

ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend to you,

LOVE the photo for your silhouette today, and your blue heron...one of my favorites. That spider. You're brave, I would need a zoom to take a photo looking that close. *wink.
ReplyDeleteThe spider is superb. It would scare away any potential predators wouldn't it?
ReplyDeleteA grand view of the flight of geese and that spider is quite an intimdating character.
ReplyDeleteThose are big spiders. Your geese shot is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFabulous shots, all of them! I love the Great Blue Heron. They are fun to watch.
ReplyDeletecute little spidey! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat spider and herons too. So glad you didn't walk into the web!
ReplyDeleteThe spider is fantastic, so surreal with the strange body shape and spines. I would love to see one. Fun shots of the heron fishing. I haven't heard any Canadian Geese flying over our house yet. But yesterday the Chickadees showed up looking for seeds on our deck.
ReplyDeleteThe heron is gorgeous! The spider webs are amazing, but I'm not that fond of spiders.
ReplyDeleteThe spider does look a bit unsettling, but I really like the heron and the geese.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and finding in your walk! That was good the spider was non-aggressive.The photo of the birds in the sky is so refreshing!!
ReplyDeletegreat collection of critters. :) Interesting spider!
ReplyDeleteI walked into a 'colony' of similar spiders once - small, but they still made me jump about a bit!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures.

I agree with you, Great Blue Herons are tons of fun to watch...and photograph.
ReplyDeleteNeat shots, especially the silhouette.
ReplyDeleteThat spider is creepy!!! But good photos of it. Ugh. Nice shots of the birds in flight and the Great Blue Heron. It's also interesting seeing them when they lean far to one side while they're hunting. They certainly have a great range of flexibility, and are stunning looking.
ReplyDeleteHello Lea, neat shots of the spider and web. And I love the heron and geese in flight! Great photos! I am sorry I am so late commenting, I've been away. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post! Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots Lea. The geese flying is a wonderful image...
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating in Saturday Silhouettes!
Much prefer birds over spiders. ;-)
