Night Blooming Cactus August 13-14, 2013

ABC Wednesday
E is for Epiphyllum
Epiphyllum, Night Blooming Cactus

A native of Central America, it is grown as a houseplant in cooler parts of the world
Mine are in pots. They spend the Summer on the front porch and the Winter indoors.

The blooms are pollinated by moths and other night-flying insects.
They are open for only one night and wilt the next morning.

    1. How beautiful are these cacti. It is a pity that some of them bloom at night and wither the next day.Great post!

  8. I let several Epi blooms go by without checking on them recently.

You do know you can pick the fully open bloom, put it in a plastic bag in the refrigerator or a styrofoam cooler and bring it out the next day to display for those who weren't up to see it? Kept in the cool dark, they'll last until the next day.
