My Turk's Cap, Malvaviscus, was attacked by insects, but still managed to bloom beautifully. |
I planted Marigolds all around the vegetable garden. |
I bought this Lantana as a hanging basket for the porch. |
I'm glad I did not prune the old blooms from the Zinnias. I think this is a Silver-Spotted Skipper. |
Phlox is very reliable to bloom every Summer. |
I rescued these Salvias from the Dead and Dying shelf last May. A real bargain - 6 plants for less than 2 dollars! |
Homestead Purple Verbena with Swallowtail Butterfly |
Another flower highly popular with the butterflies, Buddleia, Butterfly Bush |

That's a more colorful Skipper than most. The ones in my yard are orange or brownish. I realized my Phlox had been there for 10 years without problems so I bought 3 more this year. Deer don't bother it, either. I like your Lantana, that's my favorite color combination of it.
ReplyDeleteI love the vibrant colour of the Phlox. Happy GBBD :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blooms, Lea. Love the butterfly pics!
ReplyDeletePhlox are big favorites of mine, and one of the first perennials I grew of my own. I have such a sentimental attachment to them. They always remind me of an elderly neighbor who shared so many of her plants with me. I grew up gardening with my parents, helping tend our huge veggie garden. But it was my old neighbor's inspiration that helped get my ornamental gardening juices flowing!
Beautiful! My yard has a few hibiscus, althea and daylilies blooming, not much else right now.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful summer flowers! Happy Bloom Day to you.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of the butterflies, it is so nice to see butterflies this year, last year I had none in my garden, this year there has been lots!
ReplyDeleteLove the Turk's Cap too, would like to have that in my garden :-)
Terrific Photos. Butterflies are picking up in numbers everywhere. Your flowers are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos...I love your Phlox and the photo with multiple delighted butterflies on the Butterfly Bush!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your Turks Cap, but to my mind your wealth of butterflies more than makes up for it!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful flowers for the August garden. I can see why the butterflies like to visit! I really like the Turk's Cap. I'm glad it survived the insects!
ReplyDeleteThe Turk's Cap is a new one on me. It looks very interesting, though maybe a little tender for Maryland. Thanks for posting. — jw
ReplyDeleteLovely blooms and butterflies. I've always been a huge fan of turk's cap.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of your flowers and the butterflies, especially that last one. And a magnificent header !
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight to see all your butterflies, Lea! We've had so few this summer that I get excited when one decides to visit my garden. I've come to think of Phlox as welcome old reliables, too. Happy Bloom Day!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the delay in stopping by...I love the variety and the fact that you grow annuals....I initially started with them because I am newbie ...after this year of constant butterflies and hummingbirds I will always have zinnia in my garden....I will look have to look up what a swallow tail is because I have had some but they look like they had blue on the tips.

ReplyDeleteThis is what I saw and they are common in Mississippi...and I'm in Alabama..so close enough for government work.
