1.This Week's Weather (Sky Watch Friday)

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 20, 2020
We began the week with cool but sunny weather. A very nice day to visit Shiloh National Military Park!
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 25, 2020
The rain began Wednesday, and continued on Thursday. The skies are still overcast this morning (Friday). Saturday's forecast is for a high of 78F (25C) with partly cloudy skies.

2. Kerria (Floral Friday Fotos)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 15, 2020
Kerria japonica 'Plentiflora' is a large, sprawling shrub. Careful pruning (after the flowers fade) is needed to keep it in a pleasing shape.

3. Wildflower Seeds (The Weekend in Black and White)

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, September 20, 2020
The wildflowers are busy spreading their seeds!

4. Praying Mantis (Saturday's Critters)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 16, 2020
A Praying Mantis on one of my Hummingbird feeders. They eat insects, so I think it was waiting for bees to visit the feeder. I was surprised to learn that there is a larger non-native species of Mantis brought to the United States in the 1800s (to help control insects on crops) that is large enough to catch a Hummingbird! Just to be on the safe side, I noticed the Hummingbirds were visiting my other feeders, but not this one.

5. Eastern Bluebird (I'd Rather B Birdin')

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 20, 2020
a female Eastern Bluebird, Sialia sialis.

Tomorrow, September 26th, is my blog anniversary - 9 years!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. ...we will be in the 80s this weekend, with cool nights. I like Kerria, but it can get rangey. Those seeds fly quite a distance. Praying Mantis and Eastern Bluebird are two critters that I rarely see.
Thanks Lea for joining the party, take care!

  6. Happy 9th blogoversary (tomorrow). We may actually be warmer than you tomorrow in New York State! I am not familiar with Kerria, I don't think. My favorite was the wildflowre seed puff in black and white, but the bluebird was a close second. And, I've wanted to visit Shiloh for a long time; have just never made it there. It's on my list, though.

The park and forest look beautiful, nice place to visit. The Kerria is new to me, very pretty blooms. Great eye finding the Praying Mantis, I hope the Hummers are on the look out too. The Bluebirds are my favorite, great photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great weekend.

  12. Happy Blog Anniversary! Love the blue bird. Yikes, I do not want to see a praying mantis large enough to eat a hummingbird (the praying mantis I saw on my mums a week or 2 ago was green, interesting how their colors vary). Hope you are having a great weekend.

  13. Very enjoyable post. The park/forest look like lovely places to visit. That flower was so pretty and the little bird was very cute. Nice shot of the Mantis and wow one big enough to kill a hummingbird, that must be some big bug!

  14. A large praying mantis is capable of catching a hummingbird and making it a meal, so smart hummingbirds. Beautiful black and white photo.

  16. Fun stuff! I'm glad you had a pleasant week. We've had some wonderful weather here in Southern Wisconsin lately, but we're about to face a dramatic shift from hot to very cool weather. Boo. I'm not ready for it. Happy Blogaversary!
