Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Melanerpes carolinus, can be found in the eastern half of the United States. You can attract them to your yard by hanging suet feeders.

  3. I always thought this bird was misnamed. I've never seen it's red belly. Does it even have one? I guess redheaded had already been used but maybe red striped woodpecker would have been better.

  5. These guys are entertaining. Their flight pattern is so unique; with their wings kind of in a circular pattern. Great to have them in your garden.
