Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Rain While the Sun is Shining! (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 24, 2018
Our barn with the sun shining through the rain Monday afternoon. (The sun was low in the sky and to the left of the photo).

2. Favorite Photo of the Week
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 22, 2018
Sparrow trying to hide from my camera!

3. Hay
Windrowing Hay, Lee County, Mississippi, USA, September 19, 2018
We have had a lot of rain this week, but last week was hot and dry, perfect for haying. The hay is cut and left in the field to dry for a few days. Then it is raked into rows (windrowed) for the baler to pick up.

A baler like this one scoops up the hay, and forms it into big round bales. Some other farmers in our area use balers that make smaller rectangular bales.

When enough hay is gathered to make a bale, it is wrapped and deposited on the field. Later a tractor with a lift attachment will load the bales onto a flat bed truck to carry them to a barn or shed to be stored until needed.

4. Horse (Saturday's Critters)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, September 26, 2018
In the pasture next to the hayfield, this pretty horse barely glanced my way...

… before continuing to graze.

5. Killdeer (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, September 26, 2018
Look around you, birds are everywhere! I saw this Killdeer in a shopping mall parking lot. It was fluffing its feathers to dry them after the rain.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. The rain picture with the barn was wonderful - great capture, as was the hiding bird. Seeing hay being made reminded me of the several years I lived in rural Arkansas. Have a wonderful week!

  3. the barn shot is moody and interesting enough to be a poster! Now what poem or wisdom would be overprinted on it?
